OUES PTO General Meeting Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 9:15 a.m. Meeting started at 9:20 a.m. Welcome: • Martha welcomed everyone to the meeting • Keep the budget good- needs of school is first- programs covered for first part of year from last year • Give time, give money, give money for activities, etc. There are lots of opportunities to participate in during the first part of the year. • Martha explained the disbursement committee requests • The PTO spent $40k last year to upgrade the classrooms at OUES with new technical equipment • in previous years the PTO purchased the shade structure on the playground , books, etc. for the school Carroll Education Foundation- Kacy Hankins, CEF Executive Director • October 4th annual fundraiser. $100 a person or $150 a couple. • 2005-present Old Union has received $37k in grants for teachers. • Website is www.southlakecef.org • Tickets can be purchased online or at the administration office. Please mention OUES when buying tickets because 10% of ticket goes back to OUES. Campus Update • Introduced Mary Lehrer- new OUES counselor • Rachel’s challenge- Thursday DVD at lunch • Eddie Coker- Friday • 4th grade service project school wide- 2 major ones- December possibly paper for Grace, possibly one for humane society. They will be meeting with the students in the next 2 weeks. • Guidance lessons o Great body shop- how to take care of your body o Bullying o Rachel’s challenge • Parent seminars o internet safety, text safety, etc. o help students with anxiety and stress • Student Council Starting- Mrs. Glancy & Mrs. Specht co-sponsor with Ms. Homan o Community service projects o Leadership- character traits o Book club o Oct. 22- Eubanks student council conference

Mrs. McCammon- volunteers for garden Refresh playground paint Book fair- Mrs. Loomis Sept. 28th- Oct 2nd. Thursday- Setup, FridayPreview, Monday- Book Fair Starts, Tuesday, Sept. 29th 7am-5pm (long day). Discount for volunteers that help with the book fair. Writing initiative- study @ Columbia writing workshop Dragon Days- @ end 6 weeks -1 hour 15 minutes- prof learning communities K-5 -K-4 in specials together and lunch together PTO Website- There will soon be an option on the OUES PTO website to donate money directly to a need that a teacher has requested. www.ouespto.com

Volunteer Commitment • Thanks for volunteering. Volunteers needed for library set-up for book fair. • Copy Room Volunteer- 10am-1pm copy duty for entire school. Grade Level Coordinators will inform Homeroom moms that they need to find volunteers from their class for 6-8 days to help fill calendar for entire year. Programs-What your money is buying? • Money to teachers for school supplies • Field trips • Summer school • High touch High Tech • Eddie Coker 40% proceeds go to school • Math Masters- Julie Lawson. Training will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22nd from 9am-10am or Wednesday, Sept 23rd from 1:30pm-2:30pm. • Yearbook- 365 sold this year. Need yearbook helpers. • Dragons Giving Back- Laurie Alm- Christmas is for Children (CIFC) Dec. 7th. • Library Buddies- Birthday Books • Old Union Day- Bryan Burns Fundraising • Online Auction- will run from Sept 27th-Oct 4th. Close at 4pm on the 4th. Stagger closing times by grade level. In addition to the current on-line auction items, paid day off for teacher, ½ day teacher break,

and day at Rangers ballpark- 1st pitch, 20 person suite, autograph ball will be on-line auction items. Oct 2nd Picnic from 5pm-7pm at OUES. o At the picnic- there will be a raffle for principal for the day and the table-top teacher parties. Oct 29th- Boosterthon Jan 14th 2010- Kids Rule the School Foodie Card at Central Market- ended Aug 31st. They now do donation cards.

Treasurer Update • Kirsty Gelberd moved to approve the budget for the OUES PTO 20092010 school year. Melissa Shombry 2nd the motion. All present approved. The motion passed. Other • Kirsty Gelberd- presented the bylaws that were adopted in 2006 and she also presented the changes that will be voted on at the next meeting. These documents will be available on the PTO website. www.ouespto.com. • SPARK- Sept. 22nd at 7pm at Town Hall. It will be over cell phone safety.
