OUES PTO General Meeting Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 9:15 a.m. Meeting started at 9:20 a.m. Welcome • Martha welcomed everyone for attending the meeting • Boosterthon- Martha reminded everyone that the Boosterthon Pledge drive is currently in full swing and the pledges are to be entered only online. • Old Union Directory- Thanks to April Netzhammer for all her work on completing the directory. • Box Tops- Ms. Specht will have a fun contest to collect box tops from the students. • Papa John’s gives OUES 20% of the OUES sales on Mom’s Night Out. • Five Guys- OUES made $170.00 from Mom’s Night Out • Tom Thumb- Christine Neal will gather info sheets to put in Monday folders with school code that can be used to raise money for OUES when shopping at Tom Thumb. • CISD will have all school forms online next year. They are going to have a one stop website for all the kids in each family (Family Access, lunch money, etc.) • Central Market will have four shopping days for CISD. Those days have not been determined yet. Campus Update • Ms. Homan said that it is going to be a busy couple of weeks at OUES. The activities that will be taking place are Book Character Day, Boosterthon Fun Run, Red Ribbon Week, and Prize Patrol. • Boosterthon Sponsors told the students if OUES gets pledges from all states that they will have a game day. The times for the Boosterthon Fun Run is Thursday, Oct. 29th PreK- 8am, K-2 8:30-9:30, 3-4 9:30-10:30. Tobin asks “What if it rains?”. Ms. Homan will talk with Administration to have alternate plan if it rains. • Student Council- The Class Representatives will attend a Leadership Conference at Eubanks. There are about 30 students participating in Student Council. • Question was asked “What happened to the recycling bin at OUES?” Ms. Homan will find out about district-wide plan that Mr. Allison is working to implement and update us on the plan. After the meeting Ms. Homan checked into the recycling issue and she updated us with the following info. Duncan Disposal is providing recycling service for the entire district. Mr. Allison, at DMS, is coordinating and overseeing our efforts. Fourth grade teachers, students and the

custodial staff are working together to implement a very detailed plan. We are actually charting and reporting the amount of campus waste accumulated each day. Currently, we have two waste dumpsters and the goal is to eliminate the need for one of them. The process is being monitored closely. We are going to use Student Council to help communicate with other classes so that we can operate as effective as possible.

Rain Barrels- They are not finished yet. Mrs. Bunch needs to install the dedication plaque and they need another coat of clear lacquer. They should be complete and installed within the next two or three weeks. Prize Patrol- There were several OUES teachers that received grants. They are Gibbons, Bullard, 1st grade team, and McArthur. H1N1- no perfect attendance awards will be given at the end of the school year. The administration and CISD wants each student that is sick to stay at home and make sure they are fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Students were wanting to be at school because they wanted to have perfect attendance. Extra cleaning procedures are in place to help prevent illnesses.

Counselor Programs • The KC Club (Kindness & Compassion Club) said the pledge at the CISD school board meeting. There are about 58 members of the club. Below are some activities the KC Club will be involved in: o Maggie Lee for good- Maggie Lee was a girl that was killed in a bus accident this summer. Her 13th birthday would have been Oct. 29th so in honor of her they wanted to perform 1300 acts of kindness. So far they have 17,000 acts of kindness. To participate in this event OUES students will post an act of kindness on a letter M and it will be posted at OUES. o Boosterthon- They will help recycle bottles and cups during Boosterthon. They will also clean up the playground at 2:30 that afternoon. The 4th grade KC members will also help the Pre-K students during their run. Treasurer Update • Fall Fundraiser revenue not reported is around $16K but will have to take out the expenses (credit card fee, party expenses, etc.). There is also a $1200 auction fee. The spirit shop is doing $2000 better

than last year at this time. Spirit Shop will open during Boosterthon. Sales tax for the 1st quarter is $1700. Fundraising Update • Amanda working on fulfillment of auction items. Teacher partiesAmanda found coordinators for each grade level teacher party. Volunteer Update • Picnic was successful. They had new volunteers working with experienced volunteers which is really good. Thanks to Rita’s Italian Ice in Bedford for donating the dessert. Tommy Pennington Real Estate Group donated most of our decorations. Others who donated decorations were Liz Hook, Jennifer Winter, Laurie Alm, Susan Jolley, Bev Reynal, and Tina Howell. The face painter was from Owl’s Nest. • They will start in December planning for Donuts for Dads and Teacher Appreciation Week.

Approval of Minutes • Tina Howell proposed to approve the meeting minutes from September 16, 2009. Jennifer Winter motioned that the meeting minutes be approved. Christine Neal seconded. All were in favor. Motion passed. • Tina Howell proposed that the changes to the 2006 OUES PTO bylaws be approved. Martha Blue motioned that the changes be approved. Melissa Schembri seconded.
