Gateway Today September -October 2009

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” Ephesians 3:20

Newborn Melchizadek sleeps peacefully as mom Rumelda is helped by our staff in Elizabeth. Her family needed many baby items and even a bed for the three other children who were sleeping on the floor. Rumelda is married and knows Christ as Savior and Lord. Praise God we could help.

Three believers come to Gateway Elizabeth Janell, a born again believer, pictured with baby Emily, was being pressured into aborting. She was in a crisis when she came to Gateway – Elizabeth many months ago. She returned to thank Joan and the staff for “making the best decision of my life. I was seriously thinking I had to have an abortion and now look..here is my precious baby!” Alnisha and baby Sincere pose with Elizabeth director, Joan Vitale. Listen for her testimony at our upcoming Banquet!

Baby Evangeli was born via an emergency C-section, experienced seizures and was hospitalized two weeks. Her mom, Aracely, is a married believer. When she saw all the tubes in her baby she prayed fervently. The next day the tubes came out. Evangeli was born July 6th.

Dr. Alveda King, our 2009 Banquet speaker fellowshipped with Dorothy Booker, our Plainfield director, at the recent Heartbeat conference in Richmond, Virginia ( May 19-21, 2009)

Thank you for praying for our talk to the residents of Georgia King Village, Newark. For those who hadn't been previously contacted by email , here is the story. Planned Parenthood had been asked to speak at a housing site in Newark. A local pastor objected to their board. Planned Parenthood was 'uninvited'. I was asked to speak. A person 'who asked to remain nameless' threatened our inviter with a protest of our talk. The talk now became an open community meeting.

"I'm a 40 year old man. They've been telling me this (the safe sex message) for all my life. The only was is to abstain"

We went there fully expecting a vocal opposition to a simple discussion of HIV, chastity and the work of Gateway. The pastor who invited Gateway (she is also the director of the housing unit) was to speak after me. She intended to hand out condoms after her talk. This pastor urged me not to mention Planned Parenthood and not to hand out any literature. Since my talk involved HIV and didn't mention Planned Parenthood, I complied, not mentioning Planned Parenthood in my talk on HIV and condom failure. I brought literature packets with me that presented the ministry but also exposed Planned Parenthoods racist beginnings. (Proofs from the library of Congress by our dear friend Akua Furlow) In our telephone conversation concerning Fridays banquet, our latest dear friend, Dr. Alveda King prayed for Go d's intervention... and He surely did. All praise to Him for the outcome! Planned Parenthood never showed up. The residents that came were vocal about abstaining. I spoke for an hour using PowerPoint, proving every quote with its source. The pastor frequently interrupted to correct me even though the proof studies were visible on the PowerPoint. She then rose to speak. After some vocal responses from the residents, her talk disintegrated into an encouragement of chastity as 'one of the best options'. One resident interrupted her twice saying, "The only option". He stated, "I'm a 40 year old man. They've been telling me this (the safe sex message) for all my life. The only was is to abstain" (Praise God)
