FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ~'FINALLY WITH WOMEN" A CELEBRATION OF POETS MINA LOY, AUDRE LORDE, BARBARA GUEST, MURIEL RUKEYSER, AND GERTRUDE STEIN TO BE HELD AUGUST 6-10

NEW YORK CITY Ouly 17, 2006) - One hundred women writers will come together to celebrate five influential female poets-Mina Loy, Audre Lorde, Barbara Guest, Muriel Rukeyser, and Gertrude Stein-in a week-long festival to be held at the Cornelia Street Cafe in New York City's West Village. The series will run from Sunday, August 6 through Thursday, August 10, 6-8 p.m. each night. Entided "Finally With Women," a line from Gertrude Stein's History}orMessages from History, the series will feature 100 acclaimed and emerging female writers reading their favorite works by the five celebrated poets. like Loy, Lorde, Guest, Rukeyser, and Stein, the readers encompass a breadth of styles and backgrounds. Among those reading will be experimental poet Elaine Equi, transgender activist Kate Bomstein, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award Marie Ponsot, spoken word artist Tara Betts, and essayist Vivian Gornick. The festival begins on Sunday, August 6 with readings of poems by Mina Loy. It continues with poems by Audre Lorde on Monday, August 7; Barbara Guest on Tuesday, August 8; and Muriel Rukeyser on Wednesday, August 9. The series will conclude on August 10 with a special reading of Gertrude Stein's History}orMessages from Historyin its entirety. The event, which promises to be one of the largest literary events of the summer, is being organized by Jen Benka and Veronica Wong.

The Cornelia Street Cafe is located at 29 Cornelia Street between West 4th and Bleecker Streets. Admission is $6.
