Word “FUTSAL” FUTSAL = FUT + SAL The term FUTSAL is the international term used for the game. It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for "soccer", FUTbol or FUTebol, and the Spanish or Portuguese word for "indoor", SALon or SALâo.

Futsal Story 1930 Football boom in Uruguay in the early 30’s Lack of spaces to create football pitches and the pitch conditions during the winter period..! 1933 Mr Ceriani created some basic rules. Mix of basketball, handball, football and…water-polo rules 1930 to 1950’s Futsal also started in Brazil (São Paulo area) No real uniformity, no clear rules (5, 6, 7-a-side) Poor development 1952 YC Association created the first ever Futsal League in São Paulo. 1954 First governing body created in Rio de Janeiro – the Metropolitan Federation of Futsal

1956 First Futsal rules adopted and published by Luis Gonzagua, from the Federation of Futsal Paulista 1960 South American Confederation of Futsal (1st ever Inc. Futsal Organization) (CSFS – Confederacion Sudamericana de Futbol Sala) 1965 - Asuncion (Paraguay) 1st South American Cup (CSFS) and 6 others until 1979 (1st ever Inc. Futsal Competition) July 25th 1971 - FIFUSA (“Federacion Internacional de FUtbol SAla”- International Federation of Indoor football), which had from 1971 to 1973 Mr Joao Havelange as honorary president before he becomes FIFA president ... 1982 - Sao Paulo (Brazil) 1st FIFUSA Futsal World Championship 1985 - Madrid (Spain) 2nd FIFUSA Futsal World Championship (14.000 spectators on Final)
Futsal Story 1987 FIFA organized three Futsal Tournaments: Hungary, Spain and Brazil
FIFA Futsal World Championships 1989 - Natherlands 1st FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Brazil) 1992 – Hong Kong 2nd FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Brazil) 1996 - Spain 3rd FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Brazil) 2000 - Guatemala 4th FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Spain) 2004 – Chinese Taipei 5th FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Spain) 2008 – Brazil 6th FIFA Futsal World Championship (Winner Brazil)
