Revision & Editing Checklist Focus Corrections Areas (FCA’s) -> How it’s graded: • Careful Editing (Goal -> Zero mistakes!) • Creativity – Use of strategies to update your tale (See ‘FTDirections’ for strategy list) • Clarity and Organization • Dialogue Revision o 1) Balanced Mix of Dialogue and Narration o 2) Variety in location of speaker o 3) Variety in how words spoken o 4) Realistic Dialogue Checklist -> Delete if you’ve done it: *Save story as “Per#LastNameStory” Ex. ->3CroweStory *Size 16 font *Double spaced (unless given permission to use 1 ½ spacing) *Story longer than three pages, but less than six *Is it appropriate for someone who is 5 -7 years old? *Is it enjoyable for someone who is 5 – 7 years old? *Do I have a good mix of narration and dialogue? *Did I apply all the rules when writing my dialogue? (Use “DialogueRules”) *Did I begin a new paragraph (and indent) with every change of speaker? *Did I vary where I put the speaker? (before and after they talk) *Did I vary how they talked? (Avoid “said” or any repetition) *Is my dialogue realistic to how the characters would speak? (fragments, abbreviations, contractions, slang) *Change font size to 12 to save paper *Print story – Ask adult to edit for you *Adult sign the edited draft *Make all the corrections *Print a new copy to turn in to Mr. Crowe (for a grade) *Change size back to 16
