MATTERS ARISING. 8.11.08 ( ii ) Gas smell at changing rooms.

ACTION

Penny Bowers. The minutes of the meeting of the 3rd December were read and accepted as accurate.

No obvious explanation as boiler is regularly serviced. 5.12.08 ( i ) Bowls Pavilion. D.Kinsey reported receipt of e-mail from Adam Beach promising to collate some costs pertaining to windows/grills and to give the proposal due consideration. 6.12.08 ( i ) Dog Fouling. The dog education team visit to the park has yet to be organised. 6.12.08 ( ii ) Scansis Mini Pitch. D.Kinsey instructed to contact council co-ordinator, M.McNulty, to determine progress of the scheme and arrange a date for a resident’s meeting so issues of concern can be discussed. 6.12.08 ( iii ) Ownership of land adjacent to TyMawr Road. No further progress, ownership yet to be resolved. 4.1.09

Update on previous issues. ( i ) “ Welcome “ signs have been completed by Gareth Lewis . Gareth Stamp to liaise and arrange installation accordingly. ( ii ) Cycles Report.- Chris Powell convened a meeting with Vinny Mott of Sustrans and agreed that signage on the pathway had to be improved.Gareth Stamp to enquire why the Friends Group were not invited to attend and report back to the group.SWilkins to contact Sustrans if no further progress made. ( iii ) Cherry Trees.- When definite replanting date has been arranged G. Stamp to inform Meriel Jones so school children can be involved.

( iv ) Green Pennant / Green Flag Award. The survey was conducted by John Ridgewell and Mel ab Owain of the Civic Trust. They were favourably impressed and will issue a report in due course detailing were standards have to be improved to meet the necessary criteria to achieve the award. 7.1.09

FOHP ISSUES.

Update on previous issues. ( i ) Website. The son in law of committee member Gordon Hann is to be involved with the project and liaise with Penny Bowers. ( ii ) Membership forms will include an attachment giving brief, general details about the group and its various activities. 8.1.09

OBJECTIVES FOR 2009.

It was agreed that the primary objective for the year is to attain a Green Pennant award, this being regarded as a realisable achievement The essential issues that have to be addressed, according to the supporting literature provided, are as follows (with related responses) a) Welcoming Place. Inviting environment with easy public access. - Concerns expressed at the lack of directional signs to the park on the main road. Councillors should encourageHighways Dept.. to erect Paul Rock brown leisure signs Paul Rock to e-mail Cllr. Ann Rowland James. b) Healthy, Safe and Secure. These issues must be seen to be addressed. - Safety concerns primarily relate to speeding cyclists and this problem is currently under review.Dog fouling similarly with awareness and poster campaign ongoing. c) Well maintained and clean. Appropriate standard of maintenance throughout site. - Regular twice weekly litter picks have resulted in the park achieving an acceptable level of cleanliness. d) Enviromental Sustainability. Consideration given to environmental issues including waste recycling. - No cause for concern as this particular standard can be met without undue exertion. e) Biodiversity and Heritage. All conservation issues to be dealt with appropriately with any historic features recognised. - It was agreed that a management plan for the meadow is to be drawn G.Stamp up by Gareth Stamp with assistance from Penny Bowers and Suzy McGlagen.Interpretation boards, similar to those at Forest Farm, will be acquired and located in meadow area with photographic detail of the variety of wildlife supplemented by simple block text. Historical information can be presented in a similar fashion and stimulate community interest further. Gareth Stamp to e-mail committee display board types for G.Stamp consideration and, on selection, will be acquired through grant applications.

( f ) Community Involvement. How site relates to local community particularly, how park is promoted, recruitment methods of volunteers and members.

- Current arrangements should meet the criteria although this aspect can be gradually improved through experience. In addition a copy of the group constitution has been forwarded and an undertaking that financial accounts are in order.Details of previous grant applications required, acceptance that the site is owned and managed by Cardiff Council with an yearly entry fee of £20 payable. 9.1.09 (i)

Walk off Christmas event with Friends of Forest Farm Sunday, 18th January.Meet at Mellingriffith Water Wheel at 11.30am. Workday scheduled for Sunday, 11th January between 1 – 4 pm. The workman’s cabin sited in the small overflow car park near Ty Mawr Road is a temporary base for a railway maintenance crew. Member Ken Davies’s dog was involved in a fight with a Staffordshire cross terrier.In attempting to separate the pair he was severely bitten and needed extensive treatment to a serious hand wound. Committee sanctioned purchase of extra large flasks for beverages consumed during work days.S.Wilkins to research prices. A Friends Forum meeting will take place at the Heath Park offices on Wednesday, 11th Februrary at 7.00pm. D.Kinsey to attend on behalf of the group. Out of the Woods event has been re-scheduled for the 23rd August. Park ranger Gareth Stamp is to inspect/clean etc the bird boxes in the park on the 13th January. “ Big Garden Bird Watch” to take place 24th/25th January.RSPB literature and recording documents distributed with members encouraged to participate. D.Kinsey to make contact with a children’s volunteer group leader and pass details on to Gareth Stamp for evaluation. Gareth Stamp expressed sincere appreciation on behalf of all the rangers for the Christmas cake baked and presented by Steph Wilkins.
