Why Music? AN INTRODUCTION TO THE INSTRUMENTAL ARTS AT EAST PEORIA HIGH SCHOOL
MUSIC TO THE SPIRIT IS LIKE THE HISTORY OF THE BAND The East Peoria Band program is deeply rooted in excellence. From its conception the program has striven to provide students with opportunities to love music and to apply their experience for the rest of their lives. The program has sent ensembles and students to the highest level of regional and state competition every year of its existence. The marching band has had the honor of playing at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and toured Mexico playing at various venues. Today the program is continuing its heritage of excellence by striving for the latest and best techniques of teaching, performance, and leadership. The vision of the band is to be the premier performing ensemble in the Central Illinois area through the leadership of its students, commitment of its parents, dedication of its alumni, and excellence of its staff.
A FEW IMPORTANT FACTS In a 2000 survey, 73 percent of respondents agree that teens who play an instrument are less likely to have discipline problems. A ten-year study indicates that students who study music achieve higher test scores, regardless of socioeconomic background. Students who are rhythmically skilled tend to better plan, sequence, and coordinate actions in their daily lives. Students with band and orchestra experience attend college at a rate twice the national average.
