WILL YOU HELP US? The Festival of Trees and Lights is an allvolunteer effort. Our interfaith volunteers work year round to ensure the smooth running of the Festival. As a result, last year’s debut of the Festival of Trees & Lights in Sacramento raised over $21,000 for Cathedral Square Homeless Program (CSHP). Total attendance was close to 7,000 or approximately 2,300 a day. In this tough economy, the need for the CSHP is greater than ever. Here are some ways you can help us help the CSHP: PRE-FESTIVAL SUPPORT Make a cash donation in any amount to help defray Festival expenses and keep this event FREE to the public. ■

PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE CATHEDRAL SQUARE HOMELESS PROGRAM Since November 2005, the Cathedral Square Homeless Program (CSHP) has provided assistance to over 100 homeless individuals living on the streets of downtown Sacramento. Over 50% of CSHP’s clients leave the program with long term, affordable housing. For homeless individuals who want to work, CSHP provides a stable address, telephone, shower facilities, clothing, food, support and encouragement that make it possible to find employment. It is my pleasure to once again support Sacramento’s annual Festival of Trees & Lights. With grace and charm the festival combines the beauty of the holiday season with our shared commitment to extending a helping hand to the neediest among us. -Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui

The Festival of Trees & Lights is a special way to celebrate the season of giving. Last year, hundreds of volunteers created beautiful holiday trees that added a festive flare to downtown Sacramento, while providing a means to support the downtown homeless community. It was truly a gratifying experience and I look forward to this year’s event. -Dr. L. Steven Winlock Associate Superintendent, PreK-6 Education Elk Grove Unified School District
