Forest Protection I.
Introduction Forest protection is the preservation or improvement of a forest threatened or affected by natural or man made causes. This forest protection also has a legal status and rather than protection from only people damaging the forests is seen to be broader and include forest pathology too. Thus due to this the different emphases around the world paradoxically suggest different things for forest protection. Each of the priority regions (i.e. the West Visayas, Mindoro and Southern Luzon and their associated offshore islands) in which PBCFI concentrates its activities are among the world’s top ten most critical areas for conservation concern for the high degrees of endemism and threat. The protection of forests in these areas therefore warrants great attention for the conservation of terrestrial biodiversity. PBCFI commonly uses threatened vertebrate animals as umbrella species to promote the protection of forests, and consequently, entire ecosystems. The two main approaches we take to enhance forest protection is to firstly, help develop better management plans for existing Protected Areas (PAs), and secondly, facilitate the establishment of new ones.

Enumerate the ways to protect the forest Determine the importance of forest Cite different benefits we can get from forest Determine the cause of deforestation To know the ways on how to stop deforestation
Definition of Terms 1. Backfire - Blaze set in front of an advancing forest fire in an effort to check the wildfire by cutting off its fuel supply. 2. High-lead logging - Wire rope system that involves yarding in logs or trees by means of a rope passing through a block at the top of the head spar. 3. Ecosystem- The sum of the plants, animals, environmental influences, and their interactions within a particular habitat. 4. Forestry- Generally, a profession embracing the science, business, and art of creating, conserving, and managing forests and forest lands for the continuing use of their resources, material or other. 5. Vertical diversity- The diversity in a stand that results from the complexity of the aboveground structure of the vegetation.

V. Assessment Forest conservation is the practice of planting and maintaining forested areas for the benefit and sustainability of future generations. The conservation of forest also stands & aims at a quick shift in the composition of trees species and age distribution. Forest conservation involves the upkeep of the natural resources within a forest that are beneficial to both humans and the environment. Forests are vital for human life because they provide a diverse range of resources: they store carbon &act as carbon sink, produce oxygen which is vital for existence of life on the earth, so they are rightly called as earth lung, help in regulating hydrological cycle, planetary climate, purify water, provide wild life habitat(50% of the earth's biodiversity occurs in forests), reduce global warming, absorb toxic gases & noise, reduce pollution, conserve soil, mitigate natural hazards such as floods& landslides & so on. But now-a-days, forest cover is depleting rapidly due to many reasons such as an expansion of agriculture, timber plantation, other land uses like pulp and paper plantations, urbanization, construction of roads, industries, constitutes the biggest and severe threat to the forest causing serious environmental damage. Thus, there is need of public awareness. This paper offers various strategies for the conservation of forest & awareness to people, which plays a vital role for maintaining a proper balance of environment. So, we must get involved in this national task.
