A poor Scottish farmer by the name of Fleming was working in his field one day when he heard a cry coming from a nearby bog. Immediately he dropped his tools and rushed toward the sound of the cries. When he got to the bog, he saw a terrified young boy trying to fight his way out of the thick black muck, with very little success. Farmer Fleming waded into the bog, grabbed the young boy, and saved him from what would have been a slow and painful death. The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Fleming’s small, rundown farmhouse. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. “I want to repay you” said the nobleman. “You saved my son’s life.” “No, I can t accept payment for what I did,” Fleming replied. At that moment, a young boy came to the door of the farmhouse. “Is that your son?” the nobleman asked. “Yes,” replied the farmer. “I have a proposition for you,” the nobleman continued. “Let me take your son with me and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he will grow to be a man you can be proud of.”

Knowing what an expensive education could mean for his son, Farmer Fleming accepted the offer. In time, his son graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London and became known throughout the world as Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin.
The annual Kentucky Baptist Convention will be held at the Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown on Tuesday, November 10. The theme for this year is FIND IT HERE: SHARING CHRIST ACROSS KENTUCKY.
But that’s not the end of the story. Years later, the nobleman’s son was stricken with pneumonia. His life was saved by...penicillin.
THE SEASON OF ADVENT
The nobleman’s name was Lord Randolf Churchill. His son’s name was Winston. Yes, that Winston Churchill. Do you ever wonder if what you do makes any real difference to anyone? History has proven over and over that God uses seemingly insignificant actions to change lives and impact the world in ways we may never realize. Nothing we do for God is insignificant. "Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return." Luke 6:38, NASU May the Lord allow this great church family to make a big difference in Calvert City … during the holiday season … and in the year to come! Together in Him,
Can you believe that the season of Advent is just around the corner? That means that Christmas is just ahead too! We will begin the season of Advent with our annual “Hanging of the Green” service on Sunday night, November 29 at 6:00 p.m. If you have never been to one of these services, I strongly encourage you to attend. It is a very meaningful time of worship. This service of worship helps us to get in the right frame of mind for Christmas. The Advent Wreath and candles help us to keep our focus on Christ during this busy season of the year. Come and worship with us for this time of worship.
It’s that time of year again! If you would like to purchase a poinsettia to help decorate our church for Christmas in honor of someone you love or in memory of someone you have loved and lost, please fill out one of the forms that will be in the bulletin through November 15th. You may give the form to Kathy Poague, Janet Dietsch, or Karen Owen.
