Foundation University Dumaguete City 2017, 1st Semester M.A. 17 FINAL OUTPUT
QUEENIE ELNAS BUTALID Permit No. ____________ SCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM FOR MATH & READING A. MATHEMATICS Goal: To provide mastery based learning and individualized instruction in mathematics OBJECTIVES Learners from primary to intermediate classes will be able to use the block model approach in solving mathematical word problems by imbuing the part whole & change concept so that they can utilize it as an alternative method on finding solutions.
TEACHING STRATEGY Opening: Begin the lesson by giving an introduction on the usage of block model approach and provide a foundation lesson on the part whole & change concept. Modelling: Showing the processes. Guided Practice: Provide group activities or task either with a partner or a small group using the method with close supervision of the teacher. Independent Practice: Learners are given an opportunity to practice the method by providing them with individual worksheets. Closing/Assessment: Learners will be provided with rubrics during the sharing of their accomplishments in the given tasks/ activities using the Block Model Approach in solving word problems in math.
MONITORING & EVALUATION Performance Monitoring of teachers and learners focusing on outputs.
B. Reading Goal: To provide a supplementary program on reading instruction for non-readers and frustration level learners who have reading deficits in phonemic awareness, systematic phonics/ decoding, fluency & comprehension. OBJECTIVES TEACHING STRATEGY MONITORING & EVALUATION Learners will be able to develop Content Based Instruction may Devise an individual tracking the foundational skills in be employed to primary level form for non-readers and reading through systematic, learners. frustration level learners in explicit, intensive and school. comprehensive reading Phonemic Awareness: instruction so that independent 5 Helpful Strategies For Teaching Adopt a standardized reading reading level will be achieved. Phonemic Awareness: assessment available in the 1. Show printed material to department to evaluate learners your child and talk about progress. the sounds and structure of the words. 2. Play letter games/phoneme substitution games 3. Provide Early Writing Activities 4. Use auditory, visual, tactile (touch), and kinaesthetic (movement) representations of sounds to teach phonemic awareness 5. Encourage home-school collaboration in teaching phonemic awareness. Decoding: 5 Helpful Strategies For Teaching Decoding: 1. Writing the letters or words they are learning in the air with their finger. 2. Create Images to Match Letters and Sounds 3. Try to have students identify the vowel before he reads the word during the practice decoding. 4. Attach images to sight words 5. Weave in spelling
practice. Teaching Strategies for Fluency 1. Model Fluent Reading 2. Do Repeated Readings in Class 3. Promote Phrased Reading in Class 4. Provide support for your nonfluent readers by asking tutors — instructional aides, parent volunteers, or older students — to help. Teaching Strategies for comprehension: 1. Metacognition using Reflective Teaching Approach 2. Use of Graphic and semantic organizers 3. Employ QuestionAnswer Relationship strategy (Inquiry Approach) 4. Allow generation of questions (Inquiry Approach) 5. Recognizing story structure-(characters, setting, events, problem, resolution) 6. Summarizing activites may use the ff teaching approaches; (Process Approach to writing)
