IMAGERY – DESCRIPTIVE WRITING SIMILE - TWO THINGS BEING COMPARED. THE WORDS LIKE OR AS ARE USED IN THESE TYPE OF SENTENCES. Example: The bear’s fur was thick and plush, like a cloak wrapped tightly around her. METAPHOR– TWO THINGS BEING COMPARED. LIKE OR AS ARE NOT USED IN THESE TYPE OF SENTENCES. Example: The bear’s fur was a thick, plush cloak wrappd tightly around her. PERSONIFICATION – HUMAN TRAITS GIVEN TO A THING OR OBJECT. Example: The TV sat quietly on the table. ONOMATOPOEIA – SOUNDS MADE INTO WORDS Example: The airplane zoomed across the sky.
