Fertilisation Ovum is released by the ovary It moves into the oviduct Ejaculation releases sperm cells into the vagina
Sperm cells move into the uterus up the oviduct If sperms meet an ovum , they fuse with each other So the zygote is formed
Zygote further divides to form an embryo Forming a hollow ball of cells
implantation Embryo digests the uterus wall It embeds in the uterus wall
Development of the baby Embryo further divides to form a fetus It is surrounded by the amniotic sac enclosed in a water bath (amniotic fluid)
Placenta & umbilical cord Placenta develops, partly from embryo and the uterus wall Embryo is attached to the placenta by the umbilical cord
birth Uterus contracts Cervix opens, baby’s head passes into the vagina Soon the baby is propelled out of mother’s body Baby becomes an independent organism
