My first day of Secondary School I can still remember my first day of Secondary School. My stomach was filled with butterflies as I was afraid that no one would want to be my friend. I had many negative thoughts about how life was going to be when I first stepped into the school. Am I going to get bullied? How will the other students perceive me? Are the students friendly? Are the teachers fierce and strict? My mind was plagued with all these negative thoughts as I walked into the school. I was relieved when I saw a few familiar faces in the strange environment. These faces belong to my friends from my Primary School. All of a sudden, I felt a great sense of wistfulness as I missed my Primary School mates who were so great to me. When I first saw my new form teacher, I was rather surprised and apprehensive as he looked fierce. But after all the formal introduction, I decided that he was actually quite okay. As usual, he began by making clear to us all the school rules, class rules and more. Subsequently, I was also introduced to other key members of my new school and I realized that both the teachers as well as the principal were nice people. During recess time, I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the school and suddenly felt quite lost. I did not remember my primary school being so big even though our entire population was much bigger than my new school. When I was queuing up to buy my food, I felt that I was being observed and scrutinized by many pairs of eyes. The first thought that struck me was if I had looked odd? When I was done with my food, I wanted to return to my classroom but we weren’t allowed to do so due to safety reasons. It was only after recess time that we were allowed back in class. Due to the Orientation Programme, we didn’t have normal lessons. The programme that the school had prepared for us was extremely fun as all the Secondary One pupils got to play many games together. It made me come to the conclusion that my new school is not only fine but also fun as I had enjoyed myself thoroughly. When we were dismissed, I felt happy because all my negative thoughts the night before were unfounded. Fazirah 1D
