Top 15 Largest Economies Ranked by Consumer Expenditures and Top 20 Fastest Growing Economies | 2009 to 2013 | LEARN MORE BELOW

January 2009

In this analysis Zpryme ranks the top 15 economies based on the Total Consumer Expenditures for 2009 and 2013. Consumer expenditures are defined using the World Bank’s definition of the individual consumption expenditure of households, non-profit institutions serving households and the general government providing services that pertain to the individual consumption of households. The analysis provides insight into the largest consumer markets among the top 15 Global Economies – a daunting task due to the varying split of government spending (of total Gross Domestic Product) among these nations. The top five economies based on Total Consumer Expenditures for 2009 and 2013 are: United States, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, and China. In 2013 these markets will reach $11,108 billion, $3,055 billion, $2,227 billion, $2,000 billion, and $1,978 billion, respectively. In reference to Consumer Expenditures, BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) rank 5th, 9th, 11th, and 14th, respectively. As expected, BRIC countries have the highest GDP growth rates among the top 15 economies.
