Austin, TX – 08/05/09 – With revenues of $11.0 billion in 2002 and an estimated $16.6 billion in 2008 in Texas alone, the Computer System Design and Related Services (CSDRS) industry is among the fastest growing industries in Texas. Over the next five years, the CSDRS industry will continue to be a significant producer of innovative products and services – providing relatively high amounts of science, engineering, and technology oriented occupations in Texas. A 2005 study by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics entitled High Tech Employment, found that 60 percent of occupations in the CSDRS industry are technology-oriented occupations. The same study ranked the CSDRS industry 1st among high-tech industries based on the percent of occupations in science, engineering, and technology in the industry.

As expected, the Texas metro areas with the greatest amount of employees in the CSDRS industry in 2008 were Dallas-Ft Worth-Arlington, Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land, and Austin-Round Rock. However, the metro areas that experienced the greatest growth in CSDRS employment from 2002 to 2008 were Beaumont-Port Arthur and Abilene. In 2008, the metro areas with the greatest concentration of CSDRS employees were Austin-Round Rock and Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood.
