Extraction of Iron ore
The process of extraction depends upon the nature of impurities present in the ore. Common steps involved for extraction of metals are as follows: 1. Crushing and grinding 2. Concentration of ore 3. Extraction metal from ore 4. Purification of metal (1). Crushing and grinding: First of all big pieces of a ore is converted into small pieces are crushed into powder. (2). CONCENTRATION OF ORE: The process of removal of earthy and rocky material from pulverizing of ore. (A)HAND PICKING: Bigger impurities such as stones etc are picked manually, (B) GRAVITY SEPARATION: Gravity separation process the ore is made to fall from height. The metal being heavy from the ore heap of impurity. In hydraulic washing the ore is spread on the table and stream of water is passed through it. (C) FROTH FLOTATION PROCESS: This method is used for concentration of sulphide ores. This method is based on the preferential wetting properties of the ore with frothing agent and water. MAGNETIC SEPARATION: This method is based on the difference magnetic properties of ore and gangue. Ore having magnetic impurities can be concentrated by this process.
