Your Special Improvement District Update from the Downtown Dayton Partnership September/October 2007
DDP Now Servicing the Oregon District The Oregon District Business Association (ODBA) is now receiving comprehensive services from the DDP as part of a one-year management agreement that went into effect in early August. Under the agreement, Oregon District businesses will receive services similar to those received by businesses and property owners in the Downtown Dayton SID. These services fall into five major categories including business recruitment and retention; marketing/advocacy; housing development; amenity development; and environmental services, including the Downtown Dayton Ambassador Program.
“I am just so pleased that we will all be working together,” said Mayor Rhine McLin, co-chair of the Partnership. “There’s no doubt that we are all stronger when we are working together, helping to grow and strengthen downtown and its businesses.”
“For the most part, we are an all-volunteer organization, and we need the services that the DDP offers. It is truly a win-win agreement for both our organizations,” said Tom Tornatore, president of the ODBA. Steps towards a closer working relationship with the Oregon District began several months ago when a representative from the ODBA joined the DDP Board of Trustees. DDP President Sandy Gudorf also serves on the ODBA board. “We are very excited to service the Oregon District,” said Gudorf. “Regardless of district boundaries, we are all part of downtown Dayton, and this agreement allows us all to work more closely together.”
The Downtown Dayton Ambassador Program is now servicing the Oregon District as part of the new agreement. Ambassador Jimmy Robinson, pictured, has been busy power-washing in the Oregon District as part of an initial deep cleaning process.

Mark your calendar for Urban Nights on Friday, September 14, and plan to come explore the creative side of downtown. With Sandy Gudorf, more than 100 DDP President participating businesses and organizations, Urban Nights is the perfect example of collaboration at its best. From restaurants and retailers to downtown housing, galleries, and arts organizations, there is literally something for everyone to see and do. All of our partners and participating venues really put a lot of effort into the event, and recently we learned that Urban Nights is receiving a Downtown Achievement Award from the International Downtown Association for the best special events and promotions category at their annual conference. Thanks to everyone who helps us make this event a success. And speaking of collaborations, the DDP is so excited about our new arrangement with the Oregon District. The Oregon District is one of downtown’s biggest attractions, and working closely with the businesses and property owners is an important step in growing and strengthening our entire downtown community. In the months ahead as we continue to address issues facing downtown, we will look at ways that we can collaborate more with others to help move downtown in the right direction.
