Eurolinks Diaries after the Črnomelj meeting (Merksem) (Rien) I’ve done a lot of things I never done before, like going to Slovenia, visiting the caves, shooting more then 650 pics without removing any. I’ve learnt that working in group works! It makes work continue a lot faster and better than when working on your own. I've also learnt a lot about Slovenia, meaning White Country because of the trees and the clothes of local dances. I was good at adjusting the Eurolinks website, without the software I'm used to work with. I had problems with creating a video using unknown software. I appreciated everything our host family did for us, especially pick us up at 1 a.m. :) Thanks for all of this! I want to ask Maja to create a facebook account :) and say thanks to everyone over in Slovenia! :) I want to take another trip to Slovenia and Sweden, just because we can, thanks to the European Union! I want to ask everyone to keep in touch with as many people as possible. Let's not forget this project! I will improve my English and translating abilities. Also we are planning another trip towards Sweden and Slovenia to improve both languages. (Timothy) I’ve done a lot of things, like making a painting with the other countries. We had to paint heroes of our countries. We had to paint Tin Tin. I’ve learnt to work with the others. Making agreements on how to paint, where to paint, and how big to paint tin tin. I was good at talking with the others I think. I had problems with understanding the host family sometimes. Because the mother wasn’t so good at English. But I did my best to understand her. I appreciated the things we have received from the host family. They were very nice and we were almost treated like kings. We got a lot of food. Everything we needed, they gave to us. If we went to drink something, we almost had to fight to pay our drink :p. I want to ask to take well care of our painting. Not that it’s beautiful, but we put a lot of energy in it. And also that maybe a next time, we can stay longer in the beautiful city, because it was nice to see. I will improve my knowledge on Slovenia, so when I go there a next time I know something more about it. (Mathias) I’ve done a lot of cool stuff in Slovenia, I met so many nice new people and I’ve drunk the Slovenian beer called Lasko. I visited the capital of Slovenia called Ljubljana. I also visited a cave called Postojna. Then we went to a seashore Piran. I’ve learnt that being social gets you further in life than you can imagine and that trying to understand or speak the other languages is very, very hard. I’ve also learnt that Slovenian people eat a lot, too much to be honest. I was good at drinking with all of my friends and being nice to people. I was also good at playing soccer table with all of my friends except when this Slovenian guy owned in a 2 v 1 game, that was pretty harsh. I had problems with talking to people I don’t know as I was pretty shy, I overcame the problem by drinking! I appreciated the hospitality of all the Slovenian people.
I want to ask all the Slovenian, Swedish and Czech people for their msn address so I can talk to them and bring up some memories. I will improve on my talking skills and pronunciations of foreign languages. (Thijs) I’ve done a lot of things with pencils and paint brushes that I didn’t even know I could do. I’ve learnt how we have to paint a wall and how we have to paint 3-dimentional. I was good at eating the food that Martina gave me. I’ve never eaten so much in 1 week. The food was good although a bit differently than ours. I had problems making the painting, because it wouldn’t work in the beginning. It was very hard making a big painting. I never painted on such a big wall… So it was quite an experience for me. But if there is ever a chance to make such painting again I’ll take that chance because it’s fun and experienced. I appreciated the hospitality of my host, they treated my like a king. If I ever go back to Slovenia I especially go to that family. I want to ask to go back to Slovenia next year. It was a lot of fun and we had the chance to really taste the Slovenian culture, because we were staying in a host family, we had to eat, drink,… the culture. I will improve my Slovenian language if we go back to Slovenia. Because then I have the chance of speaking with them in their language. (Mats) I’ve done a lot this week. It was probably the best week of my life. I’ve learnt some traditional Slovenian dances, like "Lepa Anka". We went to the caves of Postojna and visited the capital city Ljubljana. I also went for a swim in the Mediterranean sea, in the town of Piran. I was good at the dancing, and I made some good social contacts. With the dancing workshop, we had a lot of fun, probably it was the best workshop of them all. Afterwards with the presentation, I was a little nervous, but it was still fun. I had problems with some private information ;) I appreciated the hospitality of Borut, who is the best guy in the whole of Slovenia. Borut did a lot for me and Mateusz, he even gave us each a kilo of home-made sausage! I want to ask some others if they want to come back with me to Slovenia, and I want to ask the Slovenians if we can meet them again there. I will improve my Slovenian :) In short it was just a fabulous week, and I will miss Slovenia a lot. We will all keep a lot of good memories about it. (Roel) I’ve done a lot in this week. First we drove to Salzburg and had a look around there. Then we went further to Črnomelj. In Črnomelj we have done a lot like working in groups. I was in the music group and we made a song about Eurolinks on the melody of “knocking on heaven’s door”. We made lyrics in our own languages. We always had lunch at school but is wasn’t that impressive. On Wednesday we went to Postojna (a cave in Slovenia), after that we had lunch in Piran and walked around there, then we went to Ljubljana and walked around there and had a drink in a café. We were also partying a lot in a place called “Piccolo”. The beer there is great but not as good as Belgian beer.
I’ve learnt some new Slovenian and Swedish and I’ve met some new and interesting people I was good at working in group and drinking beer ;) I had problems with nothing actually. I appreciated the hospitality of the Slovenian people and my host family for letting me stay there. I want to ask if I could ever come back to there :D I will improve my languages. (Ben) I’ve done a lot of things, but the thing that I liked most was going to Piccolo every evening and drink a lot of Lasko. It was just awesome to drink so much beer but we never got drunk except for the first day. I’ve learnt a lot of things, especially new words such as “Ritni massage” and “Jaz sem malo čuden” or I also learned how to say other things but it is too much to write it all! I was good at having fun with everyone, and drinking a lot of Lasko (the best beer ever!!) “Lasko a la playa!!!” I had problems with going to bed, I never wanted to go to bed but I was never able to go to bed because I was always having fun at Piccolo’s. I appreciated the fact that we could go out every evening and that we didn’t need to pay anything. But sometimes we wanted to pay, and then we weren’t allowed to pay by ourselves. I will improve the relationship between the students from all the countries by staying in touch with everyone from the countries!!! (Nick) I’ve done the bus trip to Slovenia, it was great fun and we played games all night with the classmates. Then a short trip in Salzburg about Mozart, it was interesting and nice. We did a trip to Ljubljana to a very big cave, it was very nice with a little train. In Slovenia we got out a lot in the nights and during the day we spent time on the projects. On the trip back I slept a lot in the bus because we were very tired. I’ve learnt that the Slovenian people eat a lot and are not fat. I was good at staying awake in the night when we went out I had problems staying awake during the day after a long night out I appreciated the good reception we got when we arrived and the great food they made for us, all the money they spend on us for drinking and eating. I want to ask if we can go back to them to meet all the people again because they were all so nice and friendly I will improve going back by airplane because the bus trip was very long and tiresome. (Kevin) I’ve done a lot of international cooperation with all the participating countries. I’ve learnt that not all the countries are the same concerning school and habits. I was good at the socializing with all the people from the different countries, and I got to know most people. I had problems with the attitude of some Swedish, but it improved during the meeting. One thing that agitated me strongly was the
internet in Slovenia, it wasn’t really suitable for the uploading of our short movies. I appreciated the workgroups because you get to know the culture of Slovenia. The trip to Piran and the caves was very beautiful. I want to ask that everyone who was in the project, would comment on our site, so we can publish a final guestbook with all the pros and cons of everyone. I will improve the workflow concerning the pictures and all the material involved in blogging. It’s too bad the entire project is finished, but I’m sure we’ll see some of the students again, in vacations. The good thing after such a meeting is that all the Belgians got to know each other better and that we have a better connection between the classes now. (Gunther) I’ve done many things like visiting Salzburg and losing the group there and visit Bled with the lake and the island in the middle, and working on groups. I was in baking group. We baked bread and eggs with bacon and eggs with tomatoes and cheese. We also went a lot to Picollo which is the local pub there. We also visited Piran which is a village at the coast and we visited Ljubljana which is the capital of Slovenia, but before that we visited the caves of Postojna. And we went to club M for a last party of Eurolinks, and had dinner there too. I’ve learnt to talk English better and to put more salt in the bread to make it taste better. I was good at baking eggs and bread the second time. I had problems with sleeping in the bus because when I almost fell asleep something woke me up every time. I appreciated that the family was very hospitable for us and that I could switch from family. I want to ask if we can go back with the same people sometime. I will improve my English, so it’ll get better if it wasn’t so good. (Stefan) I’ve done many things like baking tasty bread and eggs with bacon, cheese and tomatoes in the workshop of baking. We also went to Salzburg, a nice city in Austria. We saw a big church there. On the first day we first had a break at Bled. A lake in Slovenia with in the middle a small island with a church. On Tuesday we also had some sports in the evening. We visited the caves of Postojna, it was very nice there. After that we visited Piran, a nice village at the coast of Slovenia. The weather was nice that day. At the end of the day we also went to the capital of Slovenia Ljubljana, it was too short to see the city. I’ve learnt to put more salt in bread to make it more tasty. And learnt to speak a little bit more English. I was good at baking eggs and bread in the workshop. I had problems with sleeping in the bus because there was too much noise when I wanted to sleep. I appreciated the hospitality of the host family and the people from Slovenia. I don’t want to ask anything. I will improve my English a little bit. (Bart) A lot happened in Slovenia (and stays in Slovenia) I’ve done a lot of things, learnt a lot and much more. For example I’ve done some dancing. Those dances where very typical for Slovenia. I also swam in the Adriatic Sea when it was 15 °C cold. I’ve learned that Slovenia is a very nice place to live and I’ve also
learned new Slovenian words. I surprisingly was very good at drinking ad fundum Lâsko. Which was very good beer, and also cheap . That was something they couldn’t do over there. I sometimes had problems with the time they ate their lunch and dinner. But it wasn’t that bad. Sometimes also with people who think they are better than others because they’re richer. What I very much appreciated was the hospitality of my host family, they took 3 extra man in their house. They always made sure that everything was OK and if we needed anything or if we were hungry. A question that I really want to ask my host family is, can I come back again this summer with Jochem? I will improve my English. Although it was good, it can be even better. (Thomas) We have done workshops about typical things in Slovenia. Like painting Easter eggs and typical food etc. After the workshops a presentation about it. We (Thomas and Rien) stayed at a host family like everybody. They feel very responsible for us, so that we can't do much. Their English was hard to understand for us. We learned much about the country because she was telling us 2 hours about Slovenia. I appreciated the stay at the host. The party was a good experience to me. Now I know that I never will talk to a girl myself. I hope it will go better next time. (Jochem) I’ve done a lot of things I’ve never thought I’d do. I’ve painted Easter eggs with wax, or at least I tried to. I covered soap in wool and tried making flowers with wool too, but it didn’t work out as well as I expected. I’ve learnt that there’s more than just buildings in a country that make it beautiful. I’ve also learnt some words in Slovenian, for example “vrv” is a rope and ”hvala” means “Thank you”. The landscape in Slovenia and Austria is very beautiful. I’ve learnt that Slovenia is a very cheap country. I’ve learnt that Slovenian people are also very social and very nice to talk to. I was good at making the Slovenian napkins. I had problems with the Easter eggs. And some of the people that felt better than us because they’re richer. I appreciated the hospitality of the Slovenian people. The good (and cheap) food and beer they have. I want to ask the people there if they can be our host family again this summer, for me and Bart. I will improve my English a bit, or try to understand what they’re trying to say. (Levi) Hey, I really enjoyed my staying in your country and I really love you guys! I liked the dancing workshop since we laughed a lot during practice and I’ll never forget the “Tss” and the “Chop”. The beers were cheap and so were the pizzas. Because of this trip I consider going back maybe in August or so. I think I was rather good at entertaining people and I hope that the people think the same “laughing”. I was good at interrupting some people when they were kissing too. I think Louise and Gunther got rather traumatised by the chewing gum fights. You guys have a pretty nice school there, it seemed like you are free to do some stuff that is restricted in Belgium. You have a teacher that really resembles Mr. Bean, (give him a teddy bear). We partied a lot , I don’t know if you guys do that each day (we don’t and if you don’t do that either then you should start working on it :D). Lasko is the beer, Union isn’t! (that’s my opinion, you agree with it or you are wrong >.<)
Feel free to stay in contact.
