oday, The Kentucky Enquirer presents its fall sports all-star salute. The special recognition of area athletes contains football, soccer, volleyball, cross country and golf. The salute begins here, with football, and continues through page C6, followed by Ohio all-stars.

FOOTBALL ALL-STARS

Selected by Enquirer reporter Ryan Ernst based on recommendations from area coaches

OFFENSE FIRST TEAM

DEFENSE FIRST TEAM

QB: Nick West, Conner

DL: Andy Rich, Boone County

The junior completed 200 of 324 passes (62 percent) for 2,702 yards (225 ypg) and 30 touchdowns. He threw just nine interceptions. He also rushed for 622 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The senior made 41 tackles and recorded a fumble recovery. He led a defensive line that allowed just 84 rushing yards a game.

RB: Charles Quainoo, Boone County

DL: Kody Rosenhagen, Highlands

The junior led the state in rushing during the regular season, averaging 210 yards per game. In all, he rushed 339 times for 2,198 yards and 21 touchdowns.

The senior led a defense that allowed just 12 points a game. He recovered three fumbles, returning one for a touchdown.

RB: Mark Kelly, NewCath

DL: Chris Brzinski, Ryle

The senior rushed for 1,795 yards and scored 29 touchdowns.

The senior recorded 48 solo tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

WR: William Englemon, Conner

DL: Brady Slusher, Beechwood

The senior led Northern Kentucky with 839 receiving yards on an area-best 66 catches. He also caught nine touchdown passes and rushed for four more scores.

The senior helped lead a defensive line that allowed just 68 rushing yards per game.

WR: Tony Bishop, Campbell County

LB: Greg Willett, NewCath

The senior led Northern Kentucky with 965 yards receiving on 59 catches. He also had eight touchdown receptions.

TE: Mike Sullivan, Holy Cross The senior caught five touchdown passes.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR Miles Simpson, Simon Kenton

OL: Dominic Mainello, Beechwood The senior anchored a line that helped account for 4,627 yards of rushing offense, an average of 308 per game.

The junior running back finished the season with 2,309 rushing yards and 41 total touchdowns. He also was a standout defensive back.

LB: Brandon Roller, Highlands The junior was one of the leading tacklers on a defense that allowed just 12 points a game.

LB: Zac Eagler, Boone County The senior was one of the leading tacklers on a team that allowed just 14 points a game. He also recorded an interception and two fumble recoveries.

OL: Adam Dempsey, Highlands

LB: Pat Van Sant, CovCath

The senior helped the Bluebirds average 44 points a game.

He was the team’s leading tackler, averaging 10 per game. He also picked off a pass and recovered a fumble.

COACH OF THE YEAR OL: Kevin Connaughton, CovCath

DB: Austin Collinsworth, Highlands

The junior helped lead the way for an offense that averaged 28 points per game against instate opponents.

The junior recorded a team-best four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

OL: Max Muckerheide, Conner

DB: Joe Daniels, Beechwood

The senior helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 367 yards and 33 points per game.

The senior was the top defensive back on a team that allowed just eight points a game. He had two interceptions.

OL: Zach Hall, Boone County

DB: Ben Parr, NewCath

The senior helped pave the way for the state’s leading rusher and the rest of an offense that averaged 340 yards per game.

The senior averaged five tackles a game, intercepted three passes and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

K: Chris Grosser, NewCath

P: Nieco Teipel, Beechwood

The senior made six field goals.

The senior averaged 41.2 yards per punt.
