These are the seven words that absolutely ruin everything. “We have always done it that way.” Its incredible that the amount of individuals, institutions, and business that have been destroyed all night because people at the top believed that the way they done things for decades, is the way that they should build things in the future. Remember we can’t get anywhere new if we are doing the old. Let me give you some examples. One of my favorite examples is about this company that has the biggest market share. They have this opportunity to buy an upcoming business. That business at the time was valued around Fifty million dollars. This large company could have bought this smaller company for fifty million dollars but the small company, They said No. they turned it down. The large company didn’t believe that streaming and online movies were the future. That large company was “Blockbuster” and the small company was “Netflix”. It is so incredible that Netflix is valued for Ten billions of dollars, and Blockbuster doesn’t exist anymore. Everyone remembered Nokia phones right? Guess what only a very few number of people owns a Nokia phone today. Because again, there are people in Nokia believed that the way they built their brand, with the same principles needed are for the future. Last example is Kodak, does anyone of you remembered Kodak? People in Kodak believed that people always need to buy a separate camera. And then Now, Kodak is in the verge of extinction. On the contrary of these examples, It’s is incredible that how many individuals, institutions, and businesses have had to completely shift, TRANSFORM, REINVENT, REDEIFINE, and RECREATE themselves to main relevant in today’s modern world. This is a great message to all of us. We don’t have to change of who we are but we have to TRANSFORM, REINVENT, REDEFINE, and RECREATE our focus, our skills, our priorities, our abilities. We have to always recognize that what we have are relevant to the modern world and the new challenges that come with it. These companies like Blockbuster, Nokia, and Kodak may serve as a reminder that we don’t have to live with the terminology “WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT THIS WAY” because if we always do of what we can do, then we will never be better of who we are now. We have the opportunity to find new ways, new paths, and new thoughts that inspire us to be the better version of ourselves. I hope you guys try it today.
