TEXT FOR EMCEE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION The competition is going to start any minute from now. All the contestants and the guests are invited to come inside the hall and take your seats. Thank you. A very good morning to all of you. On behalf of the organising committee, we are pleased to welcome all of you for this year PUBLIC SPEAKING competition. I would like to invite all the teachers and pupils to stand up and sing the national Anthem Negaraku followed by the State Song Ibu Pertiwiku. To begin our competition, I would like to invite Mr Jalan anak Sugi, the headmaster of Sk Nanga Wak to give his welcoming speech. Thank You Mr Jalan Anak Sugi for that wonderful speech. Now to officiate our ceremony, I would like to invite Mr Merang Anak Barar Anak the Chairperson for Pakan Zone to give his speech. Thank you Mr Merang anak Barar for the speech. Without wasting any of time, I would like to ask for permission to start on the program. For your information, there are 9 schools altogether who participate in this year public speaking competition. Ladies and gentlemen, before we start our competition, Let me introduce to all of you the judges for today’s competition. The first judge is Mr William Tiong Tuong Tiing as a chief judge. The next person beside him is Mdm Grace Yip Shan Fan as the second judge and Mr Amin Anak Seer as the third judge. All the judges’ decisions are final and individual marks will not be disclosed. The timekeeper for this competition is Mr Romario Ansam.

Let me read to you the competition rules: The competition is divided into two sections, as follows: Section 1 Prepared speech and Section 2 impromptu speech For section 1 , contestants are to observe the following rules: • The contestants should deliver a prepared speech on a topic of their choice for 4 to 6 minutes. • A warning bell will be sounded at the 5th minute and a final bell at the 6th minute. Marks will be deducted thereafter. For section 2, contestants are to observe the following rules: • The Contestants are given a topic 4 minutes before they are due to present the speech. • All contestants will cast lot of their own topic

. • The time allocated for the impromptu speech is 3 minutes • A warning bell will be sounded at the 2nd minute and a final bell at the 3rd minute. Marks will be deducted thereafter. The judging criteria for both speeches are on two aspects which are subject matter and the use of the language. The important things are to make sure that you know your direction and set a focus for your speech.

Now, we shall start the first round of the competition which is prepared speech. *I would like to remind all the contestants to finish their speeches within the time given which is 4 to 6 minutes. Under the competition rules, marks will be deducted after 6 minutes. Here are some reminders: 1.Teachers are not allowed to guide and help your students. 2. The audience need to lower down your voices throughout the competition. 3. I would like to remind all the contestants to finish their speeches within the allocated time which is 3 minutes. Under the competition rules, marks will be deducted after 3 minutes.
