Dear the School of Dentistry and Oral Health,
Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society (BOHDS) is a student organised club that was initiated at the start of 2009 to represent the Dentistry and Oral Health students in Bendigo. BOHDS has achieved a great deal already this year, and we wish to involve and inform the teaching staff and students of our progress thus far.
Meetings:
BOHDS Executive committee have been meeting weekly since the start of the year. With many tasks already accomplished in the short University Semester.
As part of our constitution, the society forms a link between students and teaching staff. Thus, student representatives from First year Dentistry, First year Oral Health, Second year Dentistry and Second year Oral Health; help to aid the communication between cohorts and the Executive Committee. A third year Oral health representative was not able to be allocated due to their graduation being soon.
Events:
Australia’s Biggest Morning tea to fundraise for the Cancer Council is on Thursday 21st of May in the Health Science Foyer at 11am-12pm. All students and staff for the entire Health Science faculty are invited to attend. Catering will be provided, including tea, coffee and muffins, and students are welcome to make morning tea to contribute. BOHDS executive would love to have your support in attending this event for a great cause.
An Inaugural BOHDS Ball for Dentistry and Oral Health school is currently being organised which is to be held in September of 2009. All students and staff of the Dentistry and Oral Health School are welcome to attend. Invites will also be extended to the Melbourne University Dentistry and Oral Health Students.

Oral Health Students of this event. Together, MDSS (Melbourne Dental Student Society) and BOHDS are adamant to ‘bridge the gap’ between the Universities through communication and joint events.
Laser Tag was in Week 2; this was the first event for BOHDS held at the start of this semester. We had 60 students attending from both first and second year.
Bowling night PJ Theme was in Week 7. This event attracted around 35 keen students in PJ’s. It proved to be a great success and a fantastic social evening for the students.
Progress:
July 1-5th 2009, the ADSCC (Australian Dental Student Convention Committee) are hosting a national Dental Conference in Perth; for Dentistry and Oral Health Students. We are currently seeking sponsorship to enable Executive members to attend. All dental schools around Australia will be sending their President with another Executive member.
I have been communicating with the President and Secretary of ADSCC and this conference is of High importance for the BOHDS President to attend on behalf of our school and to establish the future direction of BOHDS further.
I have also been in contact with the President of the MDSS (Melbourne Dental Student Society) regarding our society’s relationship and connection. I have received a very positive response from MDSS society, and I look forward to our interaction.
We are currently seeking sponsorship to sustain the society. Details are still being finalised.
Outlook: BOHDS has been driven by a very enthusiastic and passionate Executive Committee of students, who have ensured the Society’s success this year. We
