EWING TOWNSHIP ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION, October 16, 2007 CALL TO ORDER-OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS STATEMENT: A meeting of the Ewing Township Environmental Commission (EEC) was held on the evening of Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in the Ewing Township Municipal Complex. Chairperson Mike Hiscock called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m. He began by reading the following statement: The notice requirements provided for in the Open Public Meetings Act have been satisfied. Notice of this meeting was properly given in the resolution by the Ewing Township Council on January 3, 2007 which was transmitted to the Times of Trenton and The Trentonian, filed with the Clerk of the Township of Ewing and posted in the Ewing Township Municipal Complex, all on January 4, 2007. MINUTES APPROVAL: The minutes of the September 18, 2007 meeting were approved on a motion by Pete, seconded by Hal. The vote was unanimous. PUBLIC COMMENT:

STANDING AND SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS: Planning Board and Site Review: Hal provided minutes and notes on the 9/27/07and 10/4/07 Site Review meetings (attached).
Natural Resources Inventory/Conservation Element (NRI/CE): Lee handed out copies of the pages from the CE that list recommendations for action. Lee asked EEC members to contact him if interested in assisting with the pursuit of these recommendations. Tree Ordinance: report.
Scott did not contact Dave Thompson so there is nothing to
Web Site: Lynn Robbins emailed the EEC for comments and input. The EEC agreed to include recognition of Lynn’s efforts on the site. Scott will forward the EEC 2006 accomplishments to Lynn for the site. Grants:
Hal had nothing to report.
Sustainability: JCC - It appears the Township is not interested in developing a long term plan for the property. Upgrades are to be done on a piecemeal basis in order to get the building open for use as soon as possible. The EEC agreed we need to keep pressing for Green rehabilitation of the property. “Solar Tax” Ordinance – Mike has not been able to get in contact with Mike Hartsough about a possible ordinance. John Hoegl will now spearhead this item. Hal found NY State legislation on tax exemptions for solar energy improvements and gave it to John. Ewing Bike Trails: Pete noted that there will be a Greenways meeting at the Benjamin Temple House at 7 pm on 10/25/07. Representatives from the County and the Ewing Recreation Commission to attend. Pete, Aimee and John will attend. DEP Stream Monitoring Program: Hal said there were no volunteers at this time. He noted that the NJDEP training is in November. Ann volunteered but said she had commitments in November and December which will limit her participation during that period. Community Fest: Erin, Lee and Scott participated. Our booth was relatively uninteresting and received little attention. All agreed that the Community Fest may not be the appropriate venue for EEC. Scudders Falls Bridge letter – The EEC discussed Pete’s draft letter. Pete will make final revisions and forward to Scott to send to the DRTBC. Hal will draft a resolution for the Council and Mayor.

There were several requests for wetlands determinations to
NEW BUSINESS: Mike informed the EEC that Rus will resign at the end of the year. The EEC will recommend John Hoegl to the Mayor as a new member. Lee recommended a letter of thanks be sent to Rus from the Mayor. Lee offered to draft the letter. Hal asked Pete to approach the Ewing Citizens about a EEC presentation.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business Mike moved to adjourn, seconded by Pete. The EEC adjourned at 9:13 P.M.
