The Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Junior Police (JP) launched a new way to deal with students who are not wearing proper uniform. Mayors in each class will be given a Uniform Advantage Tracker in which they are it use it to check who are not wearing proper attire among their classmates. In this Uniform Advantage Tracker, students who will violate school rules will be given one stick per violation. If the violation reaches up to four sticks, the said student will be called by the JP and will be given a punishment in which we agree to it. First, students will be monitored closely by their mayors and with this; students cannot avoid any consequence that will be given to them. Second, class advisers will also know if their already violated school rules by checking this tracker. Third, it is innovative because students can become obedient when it comes to the following school rules. If a student starts to be obedient by following the rules, it can affect them in a good way. However, students can persuade their mayors not to record their violations to avoid punishment or they can lie about it. That’s why it should be removed and brought back to the old way of monitoring the student’s uniform. The newly launched plan to deal with students who doesn’t follow school rules has advantages and disadvantages. In result, students should avoid disobeying the rules of the school. Jaeda Antonette M. That is why the approval of the President for the six-month rehabilitation of Boracay helps it to be an enjoyable and astonishing place. -Allysa Mae Calderon

BETTERMENT OF OUR SCHOOL The transferring of Senior High School Students (SHS) of Pines City National High School (PCNHS) in Lucban is helpful in our school. It is very beneficial for it has a lot of advantage to them, and also to us. When it comes to their classrooms, it will be more comfortable for them to adjust because of spacious rooms. Thus, their environment will give them a nice feeling and they can concentrate better because of the new establishment. Furthermore, they will be separated from Junior High School Students (JHS) which will give both Junior and Senior High a peace of mind rather than fighting over the space of rooms. In here, students, teachers, and other staff of our school will have the great chance to use more facilities. (like clinic, library, computer laboratory, DOST lab, and other facilities. What more is that resources will be used more efficiently because of the decreased population of students) Nevertheless, the transferring of SHS in Lucban is helpful for it has given a big privilege and opportunity not only for SHS but to all of us. -Cheryl Ann Awas

MORE FAKE NEWS, LESS KNOWLEDGE The circulation of fake news on any social media platforms on the internet must stop. Many of us are using Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, and other social media applications, not only for entertainment, but also to gain information and to know what is happening currently. This is the way of many to cope up with what is happening in their surroundings, so it is just right to make sure that everything on the internet is correct and accurate. One fake news can cause damage. For example, telling everyone that there are no classes for that day even though there is. This only would not cause problems for the students and teachers, but also for the entire school. Another thing is spreading rumours about others. This can cause negative effects on the life of the person, leading to damaged reputation, and when not aided, depression. Fake news should not be treated as a joke. Some people tend to make this as an entertainment, but in fact, it is waste of time. Remember that there are many people who can read what you made, not everyone would like to go through more researches to prove what is right from wrong. It is not funny when this causes something bad on the reader’s life. Before believing such things in the internet, it is best to do some research and ask questions first to prve if something is right or wrong. See to it that your source is reliable, and that it seeks to gve you the right information. The internet is very useful, yet it is very harmful too, so be careful on what to believe and not to care about. -Hanna Soposop

WHITEBOARDS OVER CHALKBOARDS Replacing chalkboards with whiteboards in every classroom in Pines City National High School (PCNHS) has been beneficial to students and also teachers. Blackboards or chalkboards are one of the common items used in classrooms. These have been used in learning and teaching for many years. Last school year, whiteboards were added in every classroom. If we think of it, whiteboards are a better alternative for chalkboards. One of the major downfalls of using chalkboards is that the dust that it produces. This is something that we really need to consider =, the health of us students, seven (7) out of 10 teachers and students have allergies and asthma. Chalk dust could float around the air and of course, it would be inhaled by everyone which causes mild or acute respiratory illness. Another disadvantage of using chalkboards is untidiness. Chalk dust cannot only be inhaled, it could land on desks or settles on window sills which makes us uncomfortable. With these reasons, it would be better to use whiteboards rather that chalkboards. These are many reasons why whiteboards are better than chalkboards. First, triggering asthma and allergies will be avoided. Unlike chalks, whiteboard would not cause dust. When it comes to writing on the whiteboard, it would be easier for us students to read and we would not need to adjust just to see writing clearly. As for our teachers, it would be easier for them to write on whiteboards. Also, using whiteboards will also be an introduction for us since we’ll be living with these I college. In regards to all of the reasons mentioned, whiteboards are beneficial for everyone. It might be a bit more expensive than chalkboards, but it is worth it because whiteboards are used for more effective learning. -Karell Nathalie Lawagan

PLASTIC NOT SO FANTASTIC Banning of plastic is a good step forward to reduce the waste problem on our society. Plastic is always used by many people in their daily lives. We often use them to segregate our garbage and carry things from different places. It brought us a lot of convenience but that convenience comes at a huge price. We have been told that plastic has a negative effect on the environment. Hey tae considerable energy to manufacture and a thousand years to disintegrate. Plastic is hazardous because it causes flooding problems and pollution. The impact of our oceans, our landscapes ad our wildlife is undeniable. We can easily see plastic bags floating on the water but a graver threat comes from a pollution we cannot see. Based on the research made on 2016, Baguio has recorded an increase of garbage collected from 402 to 405 tons a day. In this 2018, it is assumed that there is a significant increase of plastic that are being used and thrown away by people. The local government of Baguio City has issued the implementation of Ordinance No. 35 series of 2017 or the “Plastic and Styro-foam Free Baguio Ordinance” wherein small or big establishments are prohibited from selling or providing any customer plastic or polystyrene foam container for goods or item purchased. Instead, these establishments are mandated to provide paper bags or reusable bags made of biodegradable materials. The use of plastic bags is inseparable from human beings desire to consume but as a citizen, we have the responsibility to take good care of the environment. We can start reducing plastic waste by using products that are easier to recycle such as glass, metal and paper. It might be true that we need to a=have more discipline with the amount of plastic we throw away but that doesn’t make the move to ban the plastic any important. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. In fact, if both could be done, then that would contribute to lessen the threat of plastic. -Caoile, Genelle Khate

SUSPENDING CLASSES Mayor Mauricio Domogan, city mayo of Baguio, has suspended the class for three days from August 13 to August 14 2018 due to inclement weather. Knowing that the Department of Education (DepEd) has provided a school calendar in which schools would follow.
