Rocephin Semi- synthetic generation cephalosporin (Cephalosporins/ antibiotic. Anti Infectives) Prefentially binds to one or more penicillinbinding proteins (PBP) located on the walls of susceptible organisms. This inhibits third and final stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis, thus killing the bacterium.
Infections caused by susceptible organisms in lower respiratory tract, skin and skin structures, urinary tract, bones and joints: also intraabdominal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, uncomplicated gonorrhea, meningitis and surgical prophylaxis.
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin’s and related antibiotics.
Semi- synthetic second generation cephalosporins
Infections caused by susceptible organisms in the

- Body as a whole: pruritis, fever, chills, pain, indurations. - G.I.: diarrhea, abdominal cramps, pseudo membranous colitis, bilary sludge. - Urogenital: genital pruritis and moniliasis.
Nursing Consideration
- Determine history of hypersensitivity reaction to cephalosporins and penicillins and history of other allergies, particularly to drugs, before therapy is initiated. - Monitor for manifestations of hypersensitivity. Report their appearance promptly and discontinue drugs. - Watch for signs of the following: petichae, ecchymotic areas; epistaxis or any unexplained bleeding. Ceftriaxone appears to alter vitamin K producing GUT bacteria; therefore hypoprothrombinemic bleeding may occur. - Check for fever if diarrhea occurs. Report both promptly. The incidence of antibiotic produced pseudomembranous colitis is higher than with most cephalosporins. Hypersensitivity Body as a whole: - Determine history of to cephalosporins thromboplebhitis; hypersensitivity and related pain, burning, reactions to antibiotics. cellulitis. cephalosporins,
