Clancy: The family was living in Redfield, NY in 1860, 1870 and 1880. In 1860 they had a son Jeremiah who was born in 1859 and never showed up again on another census. John was listed as a Day Laborer. In the 1870 Census, the family was still living in Redfield, NY and John was listed as a carpenter. Descendants of Jeremiah Donovan Generation 2 Notes for Hannah Clancy Allen: In the 1860 Redfield, NY census, Hannah's name was Honora and she was listed as being 3 years old. That would make her date of birth in 1857 not 1859 as her obituary said. In the 1870 Redfield, NY census, she was listed as 13 years old. In the 1880 Redfield, NY census, she was listed as 23. Therefore, I believe she was born in 1857 not 1859. Hannah had been in ill health for about six years. Hanna came to Utica in 1885. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. William began his baseball career in 1898 when he joined the pitching staff of the Utica Actives. He later played with Potsdam where he shifted to first base, and then entered the International League where his batting average was over 300. In more recent years, he was a deputy sheriff. He also was employed by the Rome Manufacturing Co., Division, Revere Copper and Brass for many years. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church, Oriskany, NY. Saturday Evening Globe - September 6, 1904 SOLD TO THE GIANTS National League Champions Take "Bill" Clancy of Utica. For several seasons the major league base-ball clubs have been after William Clancy, the Utican whose slugging of the sphere and fine first base play have made him a star in the Eastern League. He has persistently refused to go higher, emulating the example of Hank Simon, who preferred the minors to the big circuits. Now, however, he has been purchased by the New York Giants. The latter have made terms with Montreal for his services and the notice to that effect has been promulgated by Farrell. Inasmuch as McGann is under an indefinite suspension it may be that the champions of the National League want the Utican for first base at once.
