Dia De Los Muertos Project

Janette Miller July 22, 1919 – September 4, 2007  

     

Janette Miller was born in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Scottish immigrants.   She had one brother (Grant), and married my grandfather Houghton Miller when she was 25.   Together they had two children, my father Houghton Miller Jr. and my aunt, Marilynn Miller.   She spent most of her life in Santa Monica, California where her and my grandfather founded  the Los Angeles FAA Credit Union where they worked very hard for most of their lives.  My  grandmother was a very dedicated Presbyterian woman and devoted much of her spare time to  the church and the community.  She was especially dedicated to helping the homeless and  assisting the elderly.  The ocean was her great love and she was an excellent swimmer all her  life.   Oma, as she was called by her granddaughters, was very kind and loving and would give  anyone the shirt off her back if they needed it.  She had a great sense of humor and is  remembered for her hearty laugh.  

 

  I would like to honor my grandmother because she gave so much of herself to so many  people.  She had an unshakable faith in those things she could not understand, and always had  hope for any situation.  She worked tirelessly to give back to her community and never laid  judgement on anyone and never put stipulations on her giving.  She was always in bright spirits  and could make any dark situation humorous.  She lived her life passionately and did what she  believed in up until the day she died.  I hope that I can live up to the example she set for me  and always approach life with such love and happiness.
