The Chi Rho is one of the most ancient "sacred monograms" of Christ that even predates the cross as a Christian symbol. It was developed by early Christians as a secret sign of their faith. It is formed by superimposing the first two letters in the Greek spelling of the word Christ ( Greek : "Χριστός" ), chi = ch and rho = r, in such a way to produce the monogram ☧. Often, the Ρ is formed to look like a shepherd's crook and the Χ like a cross, symbolizing Jesus Christ as Good Shepherd of his flock, the Christian Church.

CALL TO WORSHIP
“All Creatures of Our God and King”
Hymn # 27
Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don't know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me? Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me? Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Will you love the "you" you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around, through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me? Lord your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In Your company I'll go where Your love and footsteps show. Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

TO OUR COMMUNITY. . . It is no secret that we are in very difficult financial and economic times. It is no a secret that God’s word teaches financial principles that can keep us from suffering financially and economically. Did you know there are over 800 scriptures on personal finance? FBC Valley Mills will be hosting a 13 week seminar, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, and the informational meeting will be May 17, 2009 at 6pm at FBCVM. This seminar is taught by Dave Ramsey via DVD and the follow up discussion will be led by Mamie Johnston, CPA. I believe this seminar will benefit all who attend and I also believe it could not come at a better time. Of those who attend the seminar, the average family pays off $5,300 and saves $2,700 during the 13-week period. When I look at my finances, I don’t know that I would be able to do that in 13 weeks but a portion of that would help me out right now. This study is biblically based and each week there is a scripture passage that covers that particular topic. Here is a list of the topics that will be covered in the seminar: Common Sense for Your Dollars and Cents, Nerds and Free Spirits Unite, The Nuts and Bolts of Budgeting, Understanding Credit Bureaus and Collection Practices, The Power of Marketing on Your Buying Decisions, The Role of Insurance in Your Financial Plan, How to Buy Only Big, Big Bargains, Understanding Investments, Planning for Retirement and College, Careers and Extra Jobs, Keeping the American Dream from Becoming a Nightmare, Unleashing the Power of Generous Giving. It is no secret that God’s word teaches how to be good stewards. If we do not know what His word says, then it might as well be a secret. If we do then practice what God’s word teaches then we are “hearers of the word only” and we are called to be “doers of the word” (James 1:22). God’s word calls us to “Be anxious for nothing…” (Philippians 4:6). We can never be totally free from worry without financial peace. Come to the informational meeting on May 17. Come for you, your family, your church, and your community. PLEASE! Praying for you, John
