Performers Move their Bodies in Various Artful Expressions -- Dance Performances during Sleepless Night -Miami Beach, FL – From Flameno to aerial dancers, dance fans will have a full menu to choose from at the Audi Sleepless Night, Miami Beach’s free, 13-hour, dusk-til-dawn, citywide celebration of the arts, that begins at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7. Theatrical presentations, spontaneous street performances and aerial dance are among the unforgettable arts and entertainment experiences presented for all tastes and all ages, all night long, all for free. NORMANDY FOUNTAIN STAGE Dance Now! Ensemble “Dances at the Fountain” 8:00 p.m. The Miami-based Dance Now! Ensemble is just as exciting and energetic as their name might suggest. The company focuses diversity and performs at the intersection of several kinds of international dance. With every show, they promise to present the audience with something creative and compelling. dancenowmiami.org MIAMI CITY BALLET STUDIOS (Limited seating – first come, first served) Miami City Ballet School STARS OF TOMORROW Two shows: 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Students from the Miami City Ballet School, one of the most prominent ballet schools in the country, train for professional careers in ballet companies around the world. Miami Light Project presents Julie Dossavi 8:00 p.m. Miami Light Project is excited to introduce South Florida to dancer/choreographer/musician Julie Dossavi. The French performer’s style is a unique blend of contemporary African dance and street culture. If you’re lucky you’ll catch them jamming in their pajamas or dance-celebrating in their evening gowns on Lincoln Road or Ocean Drive between 8 and 10 p.m. Don’t snooze on this one…the jam could be anywhere and last 2 minutes or 15 – who knows? You’ll see the crowd stop, the radio drop and the take-off into a fantastic Dream Jam. miamicontemporarydance.net PLAZA ESPANA STAGE, ESPANOLA WAY “Remnants and Umbrellas 8-12” 9:00 p.m – 1:00 a.m. Miami Beach Cinematheque and Thought Loom present Remnants and Umbrellas 8-12, a film event that features the work of Jacques Demy and Agnes Varda. Films will be played on the Plaza de España – on strategically placed canvases, on large umbrellas throughout the space, even on palm trees outfitted with mirrors. The event honors two filmmakers who saw cinema in new ways by allowing the audience to see their films in new ways. mbcinema.com OCEAN DRIVE MAIN STAGE (between 8th + 9th Streets) Animate Objects Physical Theater “Bounce Theory” 8:00 p.m. Animate Objects Physical Theater’s new show “Bounce Theory” combines aerial dance and athletic aerobics with Ocean Drive as the backdrop. With an electrifying pulse, Bounce Theory takes dancers to the sky in aerial hoops, trampolines, pulleys and stretchy elastic bungee cords forty feet above the sands of South Beach for a truly mesmerizing spectacle. Bounce Theory’s cast of scientists conduct gutsy experiments with disregard to gravity in an oversized physical laboratory/playground. Animate Objects Physical Theater stopped traffic at the 2007 Sleepless Night event and promises to provide an equally entertaining show this year. animateobjects.org Sleepless Night is a sundown-to-sunrise, free arts celebration. It is produced by the City of Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development and Cultural Arts Council in collaboration with every cultural organization in the city, together with private businesses and individuals. It offers free museum admissions, indoor and outdoor art installations and performances, architectural tours, dance (and dancing,) theater, music, film, slam poetry, fashion shows, acrobatics, comedy and other cultural offerings, all presented without admission charge at over 80 different venues spread throughout the city and the 13-hour night. Free shuttle buses with onboard arts programming connect the various zones of activity and remote parking for the duration of the event.
