CURRICULUM PLANNING FOR SOCIAL INTERACTION
WHAT IS MEANT BY CURRICULUM Curriculum typically refers to the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, which includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are expected to meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach; the assignments and projects given to students; the books, materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course; and the tests, assessments, and other methods used to foster the child’s physical, motor, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL INTERACTION Through social interactions, children begin to establish a sense of “self” and to learn what others expect of them. While playing with others children learn appropriate social behaviors such as sharing, cooperation, respecting the property of others.

TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES AS A SUBJECT • The social sciences include a wide range of disciplines: history, geography, economics, anthropology, social psychology, political science, and civics—all of them concerned with the structure of societies and the ways in which humans live together • For the earliest years, neither social sciences nor social studies is an appropriate term, for children are actually living what they learn, not studying it.
• In elementary school, primary grade children may be taught that they are learning social studies. However, the most effective methodology for teaching this curriculum has turned out to be letting young children discover, invent, and research on their own.
ROLE OF TEACHERS Without doubt, the most important person in the curriculum implementation process is the teacher. With their knowledge, experiences and competencies, teachers are central to any curriculum development effort.
