Program Example (New Jersey) • The Partnership for 21st Century Skills Initiatives. Develop the first Framework for 21st Century Learning. The Framework supports a college and work-ready curriculum in all content areas, ensures that all students are provided with an aligned P-16 education to succeed in education, career and community life (NJ Steps Re-designing Education in New Jersey for the 21st Century, 2008). • High School That Work (HSTW), an school improvement initiative, aims to prepare students for work and future education, seeks to advance the mathematics, science, communications, problemsolving and technical achievement of students by providing a framework of goals, key practices and key conditions for accelerating learning and setting higher standards (High Schools That Work, 2009). • Plan to establish a P-16 alignment council composed of a diverse group of key stakeholders to create a seamless, aligned system of public education (NJ Steps Re-designing Education in New Jersey for the 21st Century, 2008). • Current College Bound Grant Program: supports pre-college educational enrichment activities to help ensure completion of secondary school; to increase college admission, retention, and graduation rates, to encourage the successful pursuit of postsecondary education the sciences, math, or technology (The College Bound Grant Program, 2009).

• Endorsed the American Diploma Project (ADP) benchmarks as the entry requirements for success. • Plan to implement an assessment system that measures student achievement, provides data to address student learning and performance gaps, and is aligned with the expectations of higher education and workplace. • Plan to review and revise all Core Curriculum Content Standards (CCCS) to reflect the 21st century skills and knowledge that student require to be successful in college and the workplace. (NJ Steps Re-designing Education in New Jersey for the 21st Century, 2008) Plan to align K-12 and higher education data systems: Align the NJ SMART data system with the state's Student Unit Record (SURE) system for higher education and workforce (NJ Steps Redesigning Education in New Jersey for the 21st Century, 2008). .
