AUTUMN COURSE 1 Sat 26th, Sun 27th Sep IMAGON PHOTO-ETCHING

CHRISTINE FELCE

This course offers an unusual take on traditional printing methods by creating photo-etching plates using your own selected photographic images. You will create 2 plates and then be shown various ways to print the image and push it further than traditional photography would allow. This includes a variety of complementary inking methods and other techniques to create a unique and contemporary print. Suitable for beginners, though there is room for more experimentation for those with previous experience. (This course would make a good double with the 4 day Photopolymer course in May. Book both courses for a reduction). COURSE 2 Sat 3rd, Sun 4th Oct PRINTMAKING ONTO CERAMIC

SUZANNE LAWRENCE

Whilst studying for her Ceramics Degree at Bath Spa University, Suzanne used printmaking techniques in her work. This course will use printmaking methods including embossing, tissue paper transfer where clay is the substrate and slips as inks, you will design a flat or hanging sculpture. The inspiration for this work will be natural objects with particular reference to museum collections. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 3 Sat 17th, Sun 18th Oct WOOD ENGRAVING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

NEIL BOUSFIELD

A member of the Society of Wood Engravers, Neil is well qualified to introduce you to this method of relief printed engraving. Using plastic blocks (an affordable substitute for wood) Neil will introduce you to his own personal working methods. The aim of the course is to equip the student with the fundamental elements of engraving and to introduce new working methods to those with experience. (This course would make a good double with the lino cut course and/or engraving course. Book both or all 3 for a reduction.)

COURSE 4 Sat 7th, Sun 8th Nov 10am - 4pm BOOKBINDING IN LEATHER

SUE CROSSLEY

Sue trained as a bookbinder and paper conservator. This weekend course offers a practical demonstration-led workshop where you will produce a handmade book in the limp vellum style – an historic binding technique which has simplicity, strength and flexibility. You will select from beautiful, naturalgrained goatskin as the covering leather. The course will include examining different paper samples, as well as different leathers. This book can be a blank book (ideal Christmas present) or a book you can use for printing or to bind prints already made. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 5 Sat 21st or Sun 22nd Nov, am or pm sessions x 4 bookable DESIGN YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS CARDS - for the whole family. COURSE 6 Sat 5th Dec or Sun 6th Dec am or pm sessions x 4 bookable DESIGN YOUR OWN Wrapping Paper - for the whole family.

A weekend event for the whole family. Over both of these weekends you can choose from 1 of 4 sessions. Sessions run from 9.30am to 12.30 and 1.30 to 4.30pm. You can choose between working in Screenprint or in the Etching studio. In Screenprint you will develop a template or series of masks to roll or screenprint your design. Make a small edition of cards on weekend 1, or print your own wrapping paper on weekend 2. In the etching studio you can use a combination of relief print techniques and dry point engraving to design and print an edition of original cards or wrapping paper. These courses are suitable for children and adults. Why not bring the family? Book 2 sessions (for one person) and get a discount of 10%. One adult can come with one child for the same price working on the same material.

SPRING COURSE 7 Sat 23rd, Sun 24th Jan 10am - 4pm PHOTO STENCIL SCREEN PRINT

ANDY LOVELL

This 2 day course will show you the magic of stencils and photo emulsions transferring images photographically on to a screen. You will use any combination of drawings, found objects, or photographs to create your stencil and by the end of the weekend you will have made your own two-colour print. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 8 Sat 13th, Sun 14th Feb 10am - 4pm COLLAGRAPH & CHINE COLLE CHRISTINE FELCE Come and experiment with colour –layering with stencils and multitextural surfaces. During the course you will print onto a selection of different papers that you can use as chine collé to make expressive and textured prints, This course is suitable for complete beginners but experienced printers will also benefit from diverse inking techniques used and building up colour layers using several plates and chine collé. COURSE 9 Sat 27th, Sun 28th Feb 10am - 4pm PRINTMAKING FOR THE CLASSROOM ANDREW HAMBLEDON (Professional Development Course) The course is designed for those working in education to understand and use basic printmaking techniques and materials that are transferrable to the classroom with or without a press. You can expect to use a wide variety of materials and a multimedia approach using water-soluble inks. The prints created could range from painterly monoprints to relief prints. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers.

COURSE 10 Tues 2nd, Wed 3rd March 10am - 4pm GUM ARABIC TRANSFER: 4 COLOUR SEPARATION JUSTIN SANDERS This weekend will show you how to split a full-colour image into component colour layers. Each of these is then printed using Justin’s Gum Arabic transfer technique. You will take home an editioned full colour print with the surface and tonal qualities of a lithograph. Suitable for printmakers with experience but Justin can also take beginners through a simpler transfer process during this course. COURSE 11 Sat 13th, Sun 14th March 10am - 4pm MONOPRINT (DEGAS STYLE) ANDY LOVELL On this weekend explore a wonderfully instant method that allows for great subtlety and great panache, working in positive or negative you will draw with a variety of implements and use many devices to produce atmospheric prints in monotone and subtle colours. The subject matter may be from drawings, sketches or materials (like flowers). Suitable for both novice and experienced printmakers. COURSE 12 Sat 27th, Sun 28th March 10am - 4pm 3D EMBOSSED PRINTS GEMMA WRIGHT On this course you will be shown how to print without ink. Participants will have the opportunity to explore working on a larger scale, experimenting with the immediacy of paper stencils and textures. Once your prints have been created, you will transfer your imagery into sculptural paper structures; folding, curling, cutting and joining your imagery to produce a number of unique and exciting 3D prints. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 13 Sat 24th, Sun 25th April 10am - 4pm ETCHING COURSE MARK UNSWORTH This two-day course will explore the varied and rich mark-making language that comes under the term etching. The course will cover active demonstrations as well as active learning sessions, offering the chance to try a wide range of techniques such as hard-ground and soft-ground wax, aquatint, sugar-lift, spit biting and white-ground. Some prior knowledge helpful but not a necessity.

SUMMER COURSE 14 Sat 8th, Sun 9th May 10am - 4pm NICHOLA HINGLEY PAINTERLY MONOPRINTS: LANDSCAPE & PANORAMA Learn to create one off prints using rolling, wiping, masking, painting and stencilling while you freely experiment with colour & composition. You will be shown a variety of techniques, applying both press & non-press methods and in building up your image through the use of overprinting you will create vibrant painterly prints . Suitable for beginners & experienced printmakers. COURSE 15 Sat 22nd /Sun 23rd & Fri 28th /Sat 29th May 10am - 4pm PHOTO-ETCHING ON TO COPPER MARTYN GRIMMER A chance to work over two weekends with Master Printer Martyn Grimmer to make photo etchings and photogravure using the latest techniques. Images and text will be etched into copper with a wide latitude for experimentation - a perfect marriage of photography and contemporary print. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 16 Fri 25th June - Sun 27th June 10am - 4pm EXPLORING MEZZOTINT STUART DUFFIN Explore the mysteries of mezzotint - a unique and beautiful process that can produce images from richest blacks through to stunning brilliant whites. Students will learn a range of techniques including “true mezzotint” alongside other methods of production. and also how to introduce colour. Suitable for both absolute beginners and experienced printmakers. COURSE 17 Sat 3rd July, Sun 4th July 10am - 4pm LINO CUT NEIL BOUSFIELD Discover the key elements required to making successful lino relief prints, as you are taken through this deceptively “simple process” step by step. The aim of the course is to cover each element; tool care, block making, printing, paper and inks. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers.

COURSE 18 Mon 19th–Fri 23rd July 10am - 4pm LITHOGRAPHY SUMMER SCHOOL

TOM MARTIN

This wonderful intensive week will cover stone preparation, mark making options, fixing the image and printing techniques. You will have one stone each and will work closely with Tom in a small group gaining confidence and learning how to work with this versatile medium. Tom is Studio Manager of the Curwen Studio in Cambridge. Suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. Max 5 people COURSE 19 Mon 26th–Fri 30th July 10am - 4pm ARTIST’S BOOK MASTERCLASS SUMMER SCHOOL GUY BEGBIE A five day course suitable for participants with or without bookbinding experience. The course will cover a broad range of traditional and nontraditional book structures. Participants will have the opportunity to make at least eight books and acquire necessary bookbinding skills. Various examples of artists’ books and paper engineering will be available for examination during the course. Max 7 people

Evening ClassES All our evening courses are suitable for complete beginners but will also allow more experienced printers to come and develop their work using GPC equipment under the guidance of our experienced tutors. The complete course covers 20 sessions but you can book for any 5 or more. 10% discount on the price for booking 20 sessions 5% discount for booking 10 sessions Evening classes run from 7pm to 9.30pm every Tuesday evening on the weeks stated.
