Barge The
The Rutilus
is a beautifully converted Hargreaves coal barge, built at John Harker’s famous yard at Knottingley and launched in 1938. Her dimensions are designed to be able to navigate the Calder & Hebble Navigation - the smallest of the broad beam northern waterways. The present owners had the superstructure added in 2004 and the owners - one of whom is a joiner by trade - fitted out the boat to a very high standard, with a modern high quality fitted kitchen, large comfortable saloon, bedroom with fitted wardrobes and king size bed, bathroom with both a corner bath and a full size shower cubicle, double glazing and spray foam insulation throughout. The wheelhouse doubles as a seating area offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The Rutilus provides an ideal luxurious floating home for cruising broad waterways in England and on the continent.
