Unit: The Crucible
The student should be able to understand the real world connections of The Crucible as well as effectively analyze the material on its own terms. -Students create a spreadsheet that lists the birth and death dates of all those killed in the Salem Witch Trials. Export the spreadsheet to a word document with a short description and a nice design. -Word/Excel (or comparable) -Word Document with inserted spreadsheet -By having to do so much work with the actual dates and names the human factor of the situation will become much more real to the students. -Students create a presentation in which they creatively detail one aspect of the play of their own choosing. -Photostory -Photostory presentation/wav.file -This will help students to analyze the material as they will have to pick out their presentation topic on their own and then find materials to support thei idea. -Students create a website on which to upload their work, provide links, detail the author, and write their own blog on the play. -Weebly, Scribd, Youtube (embedding project 2), etc. -Finalized website -Synthesizes both goals by having students create pages that will accompany their ideas on both the human factor and their own interpretations of the play. Unit: The Most Dangerous Game

-Students will be able to analyze the work for the social and political connections. Also, they will be able to learn the rhetoric skills for creating tension in writing. -Students create a presentation detailing some of the suspenseful parts of the play and break down the language used to create the tension. -PPT or comparable -PPT presentation -Forces students to analyze both the work and the writing itself to determine the tense moments and how they are created.

-Students create a one page document that deals with some of the social or political ideas that the story brings up -Word or comparable -Word document w/ design elements -Students analyze the story to come up with possible social connections and then focus on bringing them to light in a concise and attractive way.

-Students write a week-long reading blog in which they create their own prompts to write from. Each must be a focused short piece of writing on one subject dealing with the story. -Weebly -Blog that incorporates the elements stated above.
Assessment Ideas
