The Creative Well: Inspiration and Arts Funding is a panel discussion presented in conjunction with issue 23 of the Griffith Review, ‘Essentially Creative’. Award winning author Frank Moorhouse, arts advocate Helen O’Neil, and Griffith Review’s founding editor Julianne Schultz discuss issues raised in the Federal Government’s 2020 Summit, with the aim of working towards a new Australia which truly values the ar ts and creativity.

Helen O’Neil Helen O’Neil is the Executive Director of the Council for the Humanities, Ar ts and Social Sciences (CHASS), an advocacy organisation for the humanities, arts and social sciences which works towards strengthening their capacity to contribute to Australia’s society and economy. O’Neil has extensive experience working in the arts across a range of genres including: drama, music, opera, dance and circus.

Professor Julianne Schultz Julianne Schultz is a media commentator, author and professor in the Grif fith University Centre for Public Culture and Ideas. She was the founding Editor of the Griffith Review and has worked for the ABC, News Ltd and Fair fax in addition to her academic work teaching journalism, communications and politics.

Frank Moorhouse Frank Moorhouse’s essay The Writer in a Time of Terror, published in the Griffith Review last year, won the Walkley Award, the PEN-Keneally and the Alfred Deakin Award for best essay contributing to public debate. Random House has republished Moorhouse’s twelve earlier books as The Moorhouse Collection.
