Classroom Management
Check In/Check Out During my internship year, a few of my students and I made behavior contracts. We would sit down together and identify areas that need some work, these would become the students goals. The students and I then agreed on rewards if they reached their daily goals, and consequences if they did not. Examples of the rewards are candy, extra gym time, or lunch with me. A consequence was often a reflective recess. Every month, students and I would sit down together and review our contract and make any changes needed.
Check in/check out system can be used for both behavioral and instructional goals. The student and I would sit down together and identify areas that need improvement. Check ins and point assignments happen at different times depending on the students, sometimes after each subject or more frequently. Students work towards a selected incentive when point goal is reached. If it is not reached, students reflect with teacher to discuss what went wrong.
