Season’s Greetings and a Prosperous New Year When the Christmas cards and family newsletters began arriving, I knew we were way behind schedule. With two choices before me, fret and stress or roll with the punches, I chose the latter. Some events in

life are just simply out of our control, and the best option is to immediately surrender the whole kit and caboodle to the Lord and wait on Him for His merciful input and positive outcome.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Thursday Dec.4, Robert drove to the Dallas VA Hospital for what is normally an uneventful prostate biopsy. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred until Saturday evening around 10 pm when Robert began bleeding. After several bouts of extensive bleeding, I drove him back to the VA emergency room around midnight and they sent him home after some tests and a couple of hours in observation. At 5 am we had been sleeping for an hour when Robert tried to get up and passed out on the bedroom floor. While trying to help him to the bathroom, he collapsed in a pool of blood. There in my arms, face

ashen and his eyes glazed over, he began to convulse as I began to frantically cry out to God for his life. After dialing 911 and then following behind the ambulance headed for Tyler, my prayer continued to be, “Lord, please don’t take him yet. I know you love him but I need him and there is so much that still has to be done; he’s not finished yet!” Our prayers (many of you were also interceding) were answered and Robert is gaining strength daily as he recuperates from all the blood loss. Later it was revealed that a vein had been inadvertently cut during the biopsy.

Leah and Armando’s Wedding November 21, 2008

Leah and Armando Nov. 21, 2008

In the town of Jerez, Zacatecas, we gathered for the joyful wedding celebration of Leah and Mandis (Armando). Ani was especially grateful that her brother Robert, sister-in-law Brenda, and niece Kieri with her fiancé Duston, joined us for the festivities. Much like a family reunion with kids and grandkids and so many of our spiritual children from all over Mexico, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the two weeks spent in Jerez. It was great

visiting with friends and relatives and swapping stories about God’s goodness and faithfulness. While there, we also celebrated Keren’s Quinceañera (huge 15th birthday party). Keren is the daughter of Manuel, (wife Lourdes) our first convert in Zacatecas in 1982. They are now the pastors of the Cueva de Adulam Church in Jerez.

Cueva de Adulam Bible School – Phase 1&2 Graduation

Beka, Leah and Christie

Saturday the 22nd, we had the graduation ceremony for both phase 1 & 2 Cueva students. Following, was a huge feast and the place was packed with many guests and family of the students. To our surprise and wonder, the father of a graduate turned out to be the head waiter in a hotel in Zacatecas, where we often held special events and crusades in the 80’s and 90’s. Turns out Gonzalo gave his life to the

Lord while working one of those events so many years ago. What a thrill it was to reconnect after all those years and learn that the seed planted back then had given life to a second generation, his daughter who was graduating now from Phase 1 of Cueva de Adulam.

Leah and Budi

“Many o Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” Psalm 40:5 NIV

Christmas Here and There Although the original plan was for both of us to spend the holidays in San Luis Potosi with all the family, it was more prudent for Robert to stay and recuperate. We were blessed to have Budi home with us sharing in all the phone calls and the pictures of the grandkids opening gifts and making Christmas cookies.
