I watched the set-up of the Charter Day festivities on Monday night. Yapese dancers practiced with wooden poles in a fairly aggressive dance. The poles of a hut were erected and several sections of thatch were tied to the roof portion. A forklift brought panels out to the field and placed them on the ground. The panels were fitted together to form a dance floor. Several workers appeared to running electrical lines across the grass and rehearsals were going on near the library for another dance performance. It was almost better than going to Charter Day.
