Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION This chapter describes the origin and justification, objectives and the scope and limitation of the study.

Origin and Justification Cavite State University Rosario Campus gives the student the opportunities to develop and apply their skills and knowledge on what they learned in their specialization. They give the students the quality education they need when they study their major and academic subjects. After that they can go work on company or industries here or on abroad having the knowledge they learned in the university. But before they go on their on-the-job training they are required to do a feasibility study to test their knowledge and also helped their university or maybe the country on the problems. One of this problem that some students encounter is the lost of power supply. A need for power supply was very important especially the technology courses that Cavite State University Rosario Campus offered that needs electricity. Common cause of power supply lost or shortage most recently are typhoons. Due to strong winds of typhoons, power cables and lines are cut and facilities are destroyed. After this, a long term of blackout is experience in factories, commercial establishments and even domestic houses. One of which

affected is also the schools. Because of this long term black out activities and projects is delayed causing the students a hard time finishing it, which can also delay their skill development. So we think of a device that does not need direct power source that in case of power shortage, it can be use as a power supply. We think of an inverter device, a simple DC to AC inverter that can supply a 220 volts AC load with an input full load current of 35 A just as similar as the power source used at home. Because it is an inverter, it requires a source of 12 volts DC input. This 12 volts DC is being converted to 220 volts AC output which can supply a TV, amplifiers, radio receivers and other low power appliances and electronics tools and equipment. In addition to this device is the regulated power supply which is commonly used in electronics technology to power up electronic gadget that needs DC voltage. This 2 device is installed in a working table for the student to have a convenient and comfortable position to work on. The table has wheels so that it can be move to a place where the device can fit. It also has a lamp that makes it very useful during nighttime or in a place where there’s a need of light. It also has drawers that can be use as storage of tools, materials and documents.

Objectives of the study The long range objectives of the study are: 1. Help in effective savings by producing and improvising apparatus instead of importing them. 2. Encourage the students to invent a useful gadgets / devices that can be used in our shop work. The immediate objectives of the project are: 1. Design a Dual-Powered Working Table. 2. Construct the Dual-Powered Working Table. 3. Test and try-out to determine its effectiveness and weakness. 4. Revise and remedies it defects, if there is any.

Scope and Limitation The study focused on the design, construction, test and try-out and revision of Dual-Powered Working Table to be used in Electronics or any technology that needs a power source of electricity. The students can use this device for laboratory exercises, troubleshooting activities or simply just a power source to finish their activities. This device is limited only to those appliances or tools having 220VAC for power supply. The input voltage must be 12VDC to be able to convert DC to AC. It can also supply DC voltage of 24 volts. It can be

very functional it is fully charged and can also be use with or without electricity in the AC outlet.
