28 Chapter IV DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPLETED PROJECT This project consists of the description of the structure of the completed project and processes involve in operation, maintenance and control of the project. A. Structure The structure of the project includes the features, parts, functions and interrelationships and capabilities and limitations. 1. Features; the features of this project are enumerated below. a. Dual-powered. This device was designed and operates at 12 volts DC power source and can also operates at 220 volts AC power source b. Economical. The construction was done using locally available supplies and materials that are cheap. c. Functional. It can be used for laboratory experiments and demonstration.

2. Parts, Functions and Interrelationships. The major parts of the completed project and its functions are shown in Table 9.

Figure 7 Paradigm of Interrelationship of Parts This project is divided into 4 parts; consist of battery, inverter, variable power supply and the working table. It needs a supply of 12 volts DC to operate the inverter. To be able to operate the load a direct power source of 220 volts AC or a varied DC voltage can also be use, there is also a 220 volts AC supply coming from the inverter. The working table holds all the parts.

3. Capabilities. The Dual-Powered Working Table due to its design and construction includes an inverter which is capable of supplying 220 volts AC and a variable

31 power supply which is capable of supplying 0-35 volts DC. The table can be use as a study table. It can also be use for laboratory experiments and demonstrations and other functions whenever the project is needed in Electrical or Electronics Technology. 4. Limitation. The project is specially designed for 220 volts AC and 0- 35 volts DC load. The load should not exceed 300 watts so that it can operate. It is applicable to a load that doesn’t have any heater in their system. B. Process The process includes the operating procedures, maintenance and safety control measures. 1. Operating procedure. The following are the suggested procedure in manipulation of the device. a.

Connect the AC plug to the 220 volts AC source if you want to use the direct power supply coming from an AC socket or just hook the alligator clip to the battery to be able the inverter to operate.

b.

Turn on the switch for the inverter; the pilot lamp should indicate when the power is on.

c. Turn on the variable power supply and lamp. The table lamp should also light.

32 d. Plug the load to the convenience outlet. 2. Maintenance. To maintain the effectiveness of the device, the following maintenance procedure should be followed. a. Always place the device in an environment which is well ventilated. b. Do not expose to heat or sunlight. c. Keep out of reach of children. d. Away from water/moisture oil or grease and away from any flammable substances

3. Safety and Control Measure Below are the safety precautions and control measures in the operation of the gadget. a. Check the AC plug when plugging. b. Do not short circuit the battery. c. Reduce the heavy load if the thermal shutdown occurs. d. When connected to any appliances, be sure to turn on the inverter switch first and then, turn on the power switch of the switch of the appliance. e. Check all the switches, it should all be turn off for safety.
