High Involvement Style  Mostly teacher lead discussion groups  Frequent interruption in students’ quires

and/or presentation  Lack of situations in which students can interact and share information  mostly non-native students remain silent and raise no questions  lecture mode presentation

Features of High Involvement Style  Prefer personal topics  Shift topics abruptly  Faster rate of speech  Faster turn taking  Avoiding inter-turn pauses  Cooperative overlap  Marked voice quality (Tennen, 2005)

Causes of Problems  language anxiety and comfort with silence in

Solution of the problem:  Setting up a flexible learner-centered    

environmentent in literature classes knowledge of cross cultural students & their learning styles Well-designed multiple classroom activities to accommodate different learning styles Use of technology and wide range of teaching materials Other factors—age, intelligence, personality and motivation
