Mayan Civilization
The Mayan lived in Central America for thousands of years.
The Mayan Civilization was one of the most advanced civilizations in Western New Hampshire.
They were located in Southeastern Mexico; Guatemala; Belize; Honduras; El Salvador.
The fancy palaces and giant pyramids of Tikal were the crown jewel of Mayan Civilization.
The city of Tikal was mysteriously abandoned around A.D. 900.
Mayan Language and Writing The earliest known writing in
the Mayan script dates about 250 B.C. For a long time many scholars believed that the script did not represent a language at all. There was also about 100 glyphs representing place names and the names of gods. Today most Mayan texts can be read. There is also some unknown glyphs.
The Mayan Temples
Mayan temples were made from limestone's.
The temples were built out of beautiful carve stones.
The Maya’s built their temples on immense pyramids with steeped bases.
The upper of the temples between the middle were mold with facade.
Each side of the pyramid had a set of steps that led up to the temple.
The walls received a mortar layer finish.
