First phase of constitution revision complete With the assistance of Rev. Phyllis Goodyear, ABC Area Resource Minister, the administration team and the elder council have worked together to complete an organizational document which, under the overarching authority of the congregation, identifies and details the following organizational groups: • ministerial and office staff • boards • current ministry areas • officers

In addition, the document also describes a church leadership body, which is to be composed of representatives drawn from each of the above groups. This body is to be charged with coordinating, planning and evaluating programs and activities, engaging in long-range planning and solving problems. Through the coming weeks, Rev. Goodyear will assist the Constitution Committee, as it crafts a revised constitution incorporating the organizational document.

Songs are funny in that they stick in the mind long after their reason for being is long gone. One that surely dates me is “Accentuate the positive, Eliminate FROM THE PASTOR the negative, Latch on to the affirmative, and don’t mess with Mr. Inbetween.” I have no idea what the writer had in mind, but it surely applies to much of life and, yes, also in churches. An old pastor-friend of mine used to characterize folks who like to emphasize the negative as being born in the accusative case and the kickative mood. He had lived long enough to know how much those accusative/ kickative folks could damage a church. Our church has so many, many positive things to give thanks for, and to accentuate. Our beautiful facilities, strong leaders, lots and lots of young people and children, and the professions of faith Sunday after Sunday. Let’s be careful and not quench the Spirit by looking for the negatives when God has given us so many positives. Love,
