BUNG HATTA He was the vice president of the republic of Indonesia who was not only famous for his political ideas, but also his big work in improving the standard of living of the people through cooperatives. He was then named the father of cooperatives in Indonesia. How could he be so brilliant ? he was a well-educated man. He attained his degree economics in the Netherlands. He also studied constitutional laws in the university of rotterdam. Mohammad hatta was born in bukittinggi on 12 august 1902. his elementary and secondary education he got in bukittinggi and padang, west sumatra, and in Jakarta. He left his country to continues his studies in the Netherlands in 1921. during his study, he was active in political movements. He was with the Indonesian youth league in Rotterdam. He was chairman for the period of 1926-1930. For his political activitieshe was imprisoned by the dutch government for five months until he was freed from any accusation in 1928 and returnet to Indonesia. He continues his activities with other Indonesian freedom fighter. He was imprisoned again in Jakarta (Glodok). From there he was banished to boven digul, papoea (Irian). after some time he was moved to banda neira. By the Japanese government he was moved to sukabumi, west java. With bung karno and other Indonesian patriots he struggled for independence. In 1945 he was elected member of the commission for the preparation of Indonesian independence.. in the commission he proposed the national economic system. His ideas could convince other members and the 1945 constitution of the republic of Indonesia perpetuates them in article 33. His brilliance continued and the commission, panitia persiapan kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI) elected him vice president on 18 august 1945 one d.ay after declaration of independence. The duo sukarno-hatta was idolized by the Indonesian people. People loved to call him bung hatta. His hard work and honesty had led him to success as an Indonesian thinker. He wrote some books on cooperatives and one book on greek philosophy. He deceased on 14 march 1980and his body is buried in the public cemetery tanah kusir. This indicates how close his heart was to the people. He did not want to be separated from the common people, even after his death.
