As you enter the church, please prepare your heart for worship. The Prelude HOLY EUCHARIST The Opening Acclamation Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. Songs of Praise The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The First Lesson: Jeremiah 29:1-14 Lector: People:

Psalm 137:1137:1-8 1By the rivers of Babylon— there we sat down and there we wept * when we remembered Zion. 2On the willows* there * we hung up our harps. 3For there our captors asked us for songs, * and our tormentors asked for mirth, saying, ‘ Sing us one of the songs of Zion!’ 4How could we sing the Lord’s song * in a foreign land? 5If I forget you, O Jerusalem, * let my right hand wither! 6Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, * if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy. 7Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem’s fall, * how they said, ‘Tear it down! Tear it down! Down to its foundations!’ 8O daughter Babylon, you devastator! ** Happy shall they be who pay you back what you have done to us! 5

The Leader and People pray responsively. Father, we pray for your holy catholic Church; That we all may be one. Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people. We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments. We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight. Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. Silence The Confession of Sin And now, O Father, we pray to you also for our greatest need, the forgiveness of our sins: Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Announcements The Offering, Prayers of Petition, and Prayers of Intercession We invite you to take advantage of several opportunities during Communion this morning. First, rather than passing the plate to receive the offering, we have placed baskets at either side of the altar; please place your offering in one of them at any time during Communion. Second, if you are in need of prayer this morning, we invite you to connect with a member of our prayer team during Communion; the petition station is located to the left of the altar. Third, if you would like to offer prayers on behalf of others, please visit the intercession station and light a candle as a way of interceding for someone in need; it is also located to the left of the altar.
For all announcements, please visit our website at www.tcotgs.org. www.tcotgs.org.
