Activities in Low & High Voltage Laboratory - Tracking & Erosion Tests Tracking and erosion test on composite insulators is a compulsory design and type test, according to IEC 62217: HV polymeric insulators for indoor and outdoor use . The type tests are performed on the composite-type insulators which passed the design tests. These tests determine, to the highest degree, the quality of composite insulators which will replace entirely in the near future (due to their technical-economic and environment protecting advantages) the porcelain or glass insulators
