10 STEPS TO A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
ALTOS ESCONDIDOS SUSTAINABLE BY DESIGN BARR ARCHITECTS HAS A PROVEN RECORD OF AWARD WINNING SUSTAINABLE DESIGNS. Altos Escondidos (meaning Hidden Peaks) lies on the Continental Divide between Central and South America. The rare beauty of this location gives access to wildlife species seen in no other parts of the world and for that reason we aim to protect it with our Zero Impact In Nature (ZIIN) approach to living. While our homes boast spectacular views of the valley and the Pacific Ocean, the location is also very practical due to its proximity to Coronado’s beach, our beach club, shopping and dining.
Home sites are situated on 75 lots of approximately one acre each. We will only encumber 5% of the total surface area of the 68 hectare development and leave plenty of “green.” We will also use the highest design and building standards to qualify for LEED certification. Our Eagles Nest design has also been featured by Panama’s Copa Airlines In-flight magazine called “Panorama” as well as the Green Business Quarterly.

Residences are 100% Solar & Wind powered - Zero Impact In Nature (ZiiN) Spring water feeds the residences from natural aquifers. Each lot measure between one to two acres in size (4,000-8,000 m2), ensuring privacy. Covenants to ensure “green” building techniques and LEED certification.
Canopy walk and Nature trails along the mountain plateau give all owners access to incredible views. Forest Conservation: We will re-forest previously de-nuded areas with native species. We will only encumber 5% of the total surface area through the use of small foot prints (stilts). Water conservation: Collect rain water for greywater use.
Cross ventilation, chimney stack effect & large roof overhangs etc will reduce need for energy use. Materials & Resources: Recycled wood, local materials and craftsmen
