Amendment I
right to keep and bear arms
no establishment of religion free exercise of religion freedom of speech freedom of press right to assembly right to petition
Search & Seizure: right to be secure in your person, home, papers, and effects, against unreasonable search and seizure; warrants shall be issued specifying place to be searched and person and things to be seized
Quartering of Soldiers: soldiers may not be quartered in a home without consent of owner (except where prescribed by law)
• speedy and public trial • impartial jury of peers • informed of nature & cause of accusation • confronted by witnesses • call witnesses in favor • assistance of counsel
• must be indicted by grand jury • double jeopardy prohibited • self-incrimination prohibited • due process required • compensation for takings
• no excessive bail • no excessive fi nes • no cruel & unusual punishment
• right to trial by jury • jury decision is fi nal
powers not delegated by the Constitution are reserved by the States or the people
